Puppy Coat My puppy is almost 4 months old. She still has the fluffy puppy coat. She has been shedding BAD. It is all over her kennel and when I comb her a ton comes out. Is it normal for them to lose their "puppy coat". I had to get a low shedding dog because of my son's asthma. I hope this is only a phase!

Mine Maddie is a little four months also, i can't tell you if she's 'shedding' her puppy coat, but, i do brush Maddie everyday and there are always some hair on the brush. Yesterday after her bath and after she was dried and brushed, i notice for the first time that her coat is looking more like a yorkie coat now. long and smooth.

I know that it is normal when you brush your dog to have a little hair shed. It sounds like your dog is losing quite a bit of hair, maybe more than normal. Maybe it's an allergy to food or something like that. I believe I have read other threads about this. Maybe even schedule a vet visit just to be sure everything is okay. I just know that my yorkie never ready shed too much, I might have found a tiny ball of hair every once and awhile.

Yes they do lose their puppy coat around this age. I've never had one shed it in their bed. I always have to comb it out and it can be pretty tangled even though I bathe and brush them weekly. Once the puppy coat is gone that will be it. there will be normal hair loss after that, just like humans, but they will not she their entire coat every season.
