Good for you! Quote:
OMG!!! I would have done the same thing. And glady would have gotten arrested and went to court. I dont advocate violence but, how dare she snatch that out the furbabies head like that. I love my Paris too much to have someone abuse her in anyway. I did take her to PS 2 months ago and i was not happy and plan to never take her back. I think i need to learn how to groom her myself, thats the only way to be sure. |

So far I have been in court twice over my oldest baby. The first time, I had to fight the breeder for his papers. The second time, the grommer cut him on his belly. He didn't act right when I picked him up. When I took him outside to get him the car, I thought maybe he just needs to use the bathroom. When I put him down he screamed like I hurt him. When I looked he had a very large cut. I was PISSED! I went right back in and asked her what she had done and she tried to say she didn't know what I was talking about...Yeah right! I grabbed her by the hair and stuck her noise right to his belly and said "now do you know?" I told her she was paying his vet bills and giving me my money back for the grooming. I left and went straight to the vet. She sued me for the grooming bill...lol When I told the judge what happened and showed him the pictures and vet bill, he kind of laughed and said I got lucky she didn't have me arrested. But, she did not get the money and ended up paying the vet bill. the Judge was probably right but, I was so upset that anyone would hurt my baby. But, I think I was madder because she didn't tell me. Max could have gotten very sick! |
I am so sorry to hear of your tragic loss. How horrible, for something like this to happen. But even worse to be treated like you were the one who did something wrong. My thoughts and prayers are with you. |

And this is so scary because I take my baby to petco. I was taking her to petsmart but it seemed that they were mean to her because she always came home looking scared and tramatized and she was never completely clean. I hope you get justice. This was completely horrible. |

Petsmart groomers are HORRIBLE! :thumbdown They killed by friends dog too! It happened a few years ago but it still happened! She dropped her off perfectly healthy and was called a few hours later to come back to the store and they told her the dog was DEAD! They did treat her better afterward and offered a new puppy but she still had a dead dog after a grooming at Petsmart. I have told the story before of how they treated Pebbles when she was a puppy. I would not recommend anyone using them. BTW these were 2 different stores in different states that these happened at. :animal36 |

YES, things happen and tragidies occur. However, to say it is all Petsmart groomers is not a fair statement. Like any profession there are going to be peolpe far more better then others, far more concerned and careful for the safety and well being of animals. The place I have taken Suzi is a Petsmart. Before even considering leaving her there I observed the groomers carefully... There behavior, there techniques and watched them like a hawk on serveral occasions . i found one groomer very good. He gentle and careful. He was exceptional. And a few other groomers were too. I stayed there and watched when Suzi was groomed the first time... The second time I was able to leave and the groomer told me what a well behave, wonderful little dog she is , there were no problems what so ever. It is like leaving my child on the first day on preschool. Very nerve racking for me to have my beloved Yorkie groomed and to leave. What I am trying to get my point accross , it is not always the place , but the actual people handeling and grooming! They are NOT always terrible and horrible. I know there is always exceptions , and we need to be very cautious who we as owners allow handeling our precious yorkies. Perhaps I just fot lucky at a petsmart. :aimeeyork |
You should talk to a lawyer, don't let this go because through your efforts, you can create a safer environment for future dogs that are groomed at Petsmart. If they are sued, you can bet they will put policies in place to prevent this from happening again. I have not been pleased with Petsmart groomers either, and have gone to different Petsmarts locations and found the same problem at all of them. The attitudes of the groomers are unprofessional, non-caring and they do, in my opinion, poor quality work. It's worth it to find a groomer that you like just as you would do for your own hair stylist. Maybe get some referrals from other dog owners. |
Also for the "hair yanker" sorry you ended up in court, but 3 thumbs up to you!! You go girl!!! Yep that groomer will think twice before yanking a bow out of a dog's head!!:thumbup::thumbup: thanks for the chuckle too!! :) |

I took my girl to Petsmart when I first got her. It was my first time and I was really excited to see her so I stood outside the window watching. The manager came out and asked me to leave saying they didn't allow the owners to watch because it excited the dogs. I really felt I was far enough away and don't believe she could see me. I was very offended and wonder if there's a reason they don't want owners watching. I'm not taking her anywhere that they aren't confident enough to have me watch them work with her. This thread makes me grateful I made that decision. |
Im so sorry this has happened to you and your little Bella. I am in tears for you, I am so sorry. :( I would definitely consider taking advice from a lawyer, if that is the route you want to go. I do not take my Bella to the Petsmart/co groomers anymore, and now I am thankful for my decision. |
I am just seeing this. I am so sorry to read this. I hope you get some restitution out of Petsmart. I am so sorry for your loss. |
Oh my gosh, how terrible. I don't know what I'd do if that happened to my pup. First of all, did Petsmart think it was a good idea to keep a HUSKY anywhere within jumping distance of a two pound yorkie? Are you serious? "Rock hitting the windshield and blah blah blah," you don't see a freeway running through a rock quarry. So why was an enormous, obviously aggressive (if the owner even warned them about it) husky any where near a yorkie? Second of all, if a rock hits your windshield that's no one's fault. Well, it's no one's fault UNLESS someone was supposed to be SUPERVISING that rock. Then yes, the person responsible for that rock is... well, RESPONSIBLE for the damage. The more I think about what happened to you, the more furious I get, and the more livid I get at the manager. I just can't believed they were warned and still this happened. How irresponsible and careless, and with your pet's life. This isn't a "windshield" problem you can just drive to an auto-repair shop and pay a few hundred dollars to fix, this is your precious pet's LIFE. I'm sure you'd give a hundred times the cost of a windshield repair to have your baby back. In what city are you/the petsmart located in? This thread should be kept alive so everyone can know what happened to your poor baby. Oh my goodness! I'm just so sorry for your loss, and if you need advice or to talk or would like someone to call corporate or that specific store for you, please message me. You'll be in my thoughts and prayers, undoubtedly. |
This is just so sad. I am so sorry for what you have to go through because of these idiots. I am on my own personal boycot of Petsmart, but not for anything as devestating at this. I won't go anywhere that will not permit me to stay with my puppy while he is groomed. If it comes down to it, I will just have to learn how to do it myself. I don't think the people that work in these stores realize that they are dealing with members of peoples families and should use as much care and kindness as if there were taking care of someone in their own families. I would not let them get away with this. I definitely make Petsmart stand up and pay attention. Petco is another store that I just refuse to go into anymore. These chains are just awful, I won't shop in any of them or use any of their services anymore. |
A similar situation happened to my sister when having her dog groomed. The groomer failed to secure the dog and then turned away and the dog fell off the table and broke her neck. It is devastating. The groomer paid for the burial and bought my sister two dogs totalling $5,000. If they are not willing to do anything at all, I would get a lawyer! That is criminal! |
OMG I AM SO SORRY FOR YOUR LOSS!!!!!!!!!! You poor thing & your poor little Bella. What an awful tragic thing to happen to your baby. Make them pay!!!! I think I will boycott Petsmart just on the principle of your ordeal!!! :littleang:angel2dl::fallen::rbyorkie::ghug: |
I am so sorry to read about your loss. Your poor baby. I feel for you and my prayers are with you. I see that there are tons of responses to your thread, and without reading them all...I have to ask or plead...Please, speak with an attorney. I've been toying with whether to take Barley to a groomer or try doing him myself. I think I'll do him myself or with my vet's after reading this. I am so sorry for you and your baby. My heart is with you. |
Inexcusable Petsmart! I am so upset by your story! I hope that, in time, your grief will abate somewhat...though I know you'll always think of your loss. I agree with everyone that you should pursue littigation on the matter, but perhaps you should wait until you feel less fragile. I used to buy things at Petsmart all the time, but now I am going to stop...Hope to hear in an update that you are doing better and maybe Petsmart will apologize and offer you some monetary recompense in the meantime...though I know you'd rather have your furbaby back. Be gentle with yourself...our thoughts are with you!!! Susan & Bula |
I am so sorry as well as shocked to hear of your loss. I take mine there and have never had any bad experiences. Recently when I was there, I met a woman whom told me she would not take her Yorkie there since they don't have much experience. I was surprised to hear that they only have 6 weeks of training. I asked them recently about that and they do shadow for a while, so it is longer than the 6 weeks she told me about. But after reading what you have said, I am not sure if I want to go back. I have been thinking of changing groomers anyway. The first groomer I went to couldn't file his nails down and Petsmart has a special tool which smooths them down. Back to the subject, I am so extremely sorry to hear about your loss. I hope things get better for you. I've had my Yorkie attacked last summer by a Rotweiller, so I feel your pain. He was okay, just scared the crap out of me as well as Maxwell. Luckily, there was a Vet at the dog event that checked him out. He checked out okay, but took us both a while to get over the shock. Hang in there and hope you feel better soon. In Friendship, Miriam |
By the way - I was talking to a woman on the street about grooming, and she asked me if I had heard about the yorkie who had been attacked by a huskie at PetSmart . . . so the word must be getting out there. I hope this gives you some comfort that your tragedy may help prevent others. |
I have seen this thread come up and there have been so many people giving condolences to the OP including myself. Although it is very sad and a horrible thing to have happened I just want you to be aware of something that I discovered. Not only has she never been back on YT since her original post on 1/10/08 BUT she has posted this same story all over the internet on many forums just like YT. She will not be back to see the outpouring of sympathy or any of the stories that other have told regarding this. It is just a campaign on her part to spread this story as much as possible. We have been used and abused :( |
First of all Melissa I am so very sorry for losing Bella. You must be devasted and my heart breaks for you.:( IMHO petsmart should be the last place that a small dog owner should take their dogs. I mean come on how much training have those kids had?? Not enough for ME to trust THEM thats for sure!!! I hope you are taking action against them. They shouldn't be able to be so casual about it. and at the very least they need to have better training and way better policy about the dogs. Like big dogs on one day little dogs on others. or small dogs at certain times of day and large dogs at other times. |
Very sad Quote:
But, I think it is kinda rude and annoying to not reply to all of the people like you or I that have kept track of this. Thank you for the info. |

I just can't imagine how you feel. |
So sorry I'm so sorry for your loss. Petsmart just has not fail to amaze me with the horror stories I continue to hear. I used to take Duke there when I didn't know any better and even went to Banfield twice when we couldn't get to our vet. The vet tech said to me that Duke is marked as scratcher and biter during out second visit. I wonder where they came up with that information since the vet saw him for only 5 min in the room and I was there the whole time during our first visit; and Duke WAS calm. I then wondered if they would share these things with Petsmart since they are in the same store. I was afraid of how they would treat Duke if I left him there for a few hours in the grooming dept and he is marked as a scratcher and biter. I have yet to find a groomer that I like but I have learned to bath him and trim his hair where needed just to avoid that place altogether. ~Tam~ |
