wow everyone has pretty strong opinions...maybe she just wanted someone to talk to about it not be judged or told how wrong she is...sometimes im offended by the things some people say and the way they say it...a little niceness wouldnt hurt huh?...maybe we should start treating the fellow yorkietalkers like we do our yorkies :D (unless of course they are harming the little ones?)

Breeders not only have the right to decide who breeds their pets they have the responsibility! They also have the right to choose who is allowed to buy one of their dogs as a pet, they have the right to turn down anyone that they don't believe will be a good pet owner for any reason. That's why I don't like pet stores selling dogs, they really won't turn anyone down. Lots of people should not own dogs, that will become more evident to you the more time you spend on Yorkietalk.

No one's fighting, her point was that breeders have no right to tell others what they can do with the pets they buy; my point was that they not only have the right, they have the responsibility. Two different perspectives, you can choose the one you like. If this thread upsets you, don't read it.

I understand what you mean. Sometimes it upsets me a wee bit to see people just going off on rants and losing their cool about basically nothing too. ;) Then sometimes I just ignore it ...what can ya do...

Amen! I see this all of the time on YT. Why does everyone think that others are supposed to have the same opinion that they do. Why is everything viewed as a fight or rude??? I seriously do not understand. If you ask for advice, be prepared to get it. Take what you can use and leave the rest behind.

I do get your point in a way...I really do. I just don't understand what has you so upset here. People giving advice or suggestions in a "not so nice" way, the advice given? I believe that you have done the same thing before with new members (not that it matters if it's a new or long-time member)...I would think you would somewhat understand how frustrating it can be to feel passionately about something and not feel like you are adequately explaining your point/view.

Those were all bred for the "betterment of the breed?" BS, I say!!! This conversation started as one thing and it turned into another. It's quite ridiculous and besides that, what is really ridiculous, is how some of you are sitting here acting like you are the queen yorkie parent/breeder and you do no wrong. Who are you to judge me? I said everyones entitled to their opinion, and yes, maybe I did make a mistake, but you don't have to be so hateful. I refuse to even associate myself with people like you. Whatever the thread led to....that is what happens.
I said it before..take what you can and leave the rest behind. There is nothing rude about someone saying how they feel. Not everyone is going to agree..that is life!

I totally agree with you.. We don't all have to agree.. But I bet ya I'll get some snarls over that lost post..lol... but, ITS HOW I FEEL.... ;) and just to be clear, I don't feel that way about every breeder. Heck, I don't even know them. I'm just saying it does go on that way at times. And as far as peoples opinions, I don't care about that, it's welcome.. but there are 7 pages here and about 1/4 of all replys had to do with the subject at hand..oh well......Too bad they don't make a delete button on here.

I did a search on maltese breeders in NC, they had a list of "reputable" maltese breeders, she was on that list, and sorry, she was in NC. dont' know why it's such a big deal just because she was from NC..:confused:

In my opinion, this woman was the pot calling the kettle black. I'm not saying that either woman did right or wrong, just that they both did the same thing.

Good :thumbup: I'm glad your here. IMO just because we voice our (sometimes different) opinions doesn't mean anyone has the intent to run anyone off . I think people just have strong beliefs in different areas that they consider important to them... Some I may agree with , some not... but we have to take the good with the bad.

I think a public forum is alot like a party at my friends house...we talk , we argue , we disagree , we stew a while then we smile and get back to the party again....it's all good :D

Jexxie...I will say the vast majority of reputable breeders who sold only on
spay/neuter contracts, who held back puppies as show potential, who bred for the betterment of the breed...have left YT. I couldn't give you specifics why they left...but I suspect it has a lot to do with the breeding practices of others found here.

You are very correct. There is one breeder that sells pups on here that has females that are 3 and 4 lbs. Which to me is ridiculous, and supposedly is a good breeder?? And I don't think you made a mistake, you were just trusting someones word, and I think a lot of us on here are guilty of that

I had to laugh about your comments on the "betterment of the breed' I've stated the same thing many times. After all how much better can it get. and how many perfect dogs are actually produced.

But I also agree with the others on having a purpose for breeding other than to make money. Cause if you do it responsibly, you're not making much money.

I know I know... in my eyes are yorkies are perfect. I don't care what they look like they all need love. I understand though, that the AKC doesn't recognize "ugly" yorkies and therefore, must be "bettered"..lol..

I feel that it is my responsibility to provide the best home for my puppies, and that does not include a breeder home. I make it understood up front to the potential buyer that these puppies are not to be bred. I brought these puppies into the world so I think that it is my right to control what happens to the puppy throughout its lifetime. Not only do I require no breeding rights, I want to make sure the pup has a safe loving environment, is groomed regularly, fed properly and is part of the family, not just left outside. All of these are a deal-breakers for me. I dont see any reason why a reputable breeder should not charge extra for a show/breeding dog, although I have gotten show dogs for much less than alot of the pet quality dogs offered for sale.This is what we, as responsible breeders want: the next show dog and also the bloodlines to improve what we have. I dont mind paying extra for that. Without breeders that monitor their puppies, alot of damage can be done to well known lines that have no health problems. You will have top champion lines mixed in with indiscriminate breeders pet quality dogs and the breed starts going down the tubes.
