I agree that DH's feelings will probably change. At least he said you could get him.

Mine did NOT want a dog. It took quite a bit of asking on my part, and he finally agreed, but he agreement was more like, "Get it if you want." He seemed angry and annoyed at first. Any little problem was cause for huffing and puffing and a complaint.

Little by little, though, he has been changing. I could hear him downstairs sometimes, after she learned a new trick, he'd be trying it with her. Once he was playing fetch with her. I said, "You can't tell me she's not cute." His response, "I didn't want a dog." This was repeated over and over, until he finally admitted that she was cute. Not too long ago, he went to take a "catnap" on the couch, and brought her up to lie with him. He's been doing that more often. He keeps asking me, "What kind of dog is she again?" So I know he's talking about her away from home.

And the biggie - yesterday when he got home from work and I told him she had chewed up the figure from his Polar Express train set (but that I was ordering him a new set of figures), he just said, "Lexi, you've gotta stop chewing things."

As far as names, I think letting DH name the dog is a great idea. I call Lexi so many things, that I don't think Kricket would have a hard time at all. In fact, you could still call him Kricket at times, as one of his many names. My son thinks it's funny to call Lexi "Gertrude". "Come here, Gertrude!" Because it is so much the tone of voice, that she will come to him - if she feels like it!

Good luck, and keep us posted!

My dh sounds alot like yours inthe fact that I know I'm gonna get alot of grief in the begining when things don't go the way they are, but it gives me hope. I know eventually he'll come around. Afterall - he didn't want Deegan and now look. He LOVES that dog and is just mesmerized by any little thing he does!
I especially like the part where he asks what kind of dog she is!! LOL He is definately talking about her!

I went to look at Toby on Monday when DH agreed I could. On Tues.I went to the pet store and bought a bed, Leash, etc. We were set to go on Wed. and pick him up.
When dh came home from work He had a bit of an attitude change and wasn't sure we should get Toby. He was annoyed that I had gone to look at him myself, and was feeling that I was making the decision instead of We. Of course I didn't think it was fair that he was now changing his mind after he had said yes. We talked it out, and went to get him that night.
Driving home with this little shaking pup softend his heart. After a week or so whenever I referred to Toby as my dog, I was corrected that he was our dog. Two months later Toby's tale wags more for dh than for me!

I agree with letting your DH name the new dog. I had a female lab named Cricket. It sounds like a girls name to me too. As far as your DH goes, mine is the exact same way. Give him time and he'll adjust to the new family member. Sometimes men are just stubborn when it comes to us women wanting something.

You guys have really made me feel alot better - about both the dh & renaming him! I told dh this morning that he can name the lil' one, and he was rather surprised. He asked if it was my way of saying thank-you for agreeing to asopt him and I told him yes, and that I appreciated it more than he knows! Thanks for putting my mind at ease! I'll fill everyone in one when we get him & what his name will be. (I just hope I like it - lol)

How neat! Firstly that you can get him and that your DH gets to name him. Let us know what name it is!! and even if you don't like it at first, you'll warm up to it. Congrats!

He'll accept his new name in no time at all. I'm sure when you get him your hubby will come around.

Congrats on the new baby I think changing his name would be fine, and what a great idea to let you hubby name him! It might be easier for him to adjust to his new name if you stuck to a 2 syllable name and maybe even a name that starts with a K or a C. At least you gave your hubby notice, I just brought a new furbaby home a couple of weeks ago and mine had no clue I was even going to look! He thought I was out Christmas shopping! He was upset for about 10 minutes, then he said well let me see her. All manly of course! LOL Yorkies have a way of knowing who they need to warm up to and they worm their way into our hearts in no time!

Ok - so the rescue people came today to do our home interview. They checked the home, the backyard and met with the dh & Deegan. They are extremely throrough! Which is a good thing. So they said that we seem like good pet parents and I will hear on Monday once they speak to my vet. They wanted to call her today, but it was after noon and the office wasn't open.
I can't wait to hear back!!! I might be a little presumptuious by saying this, but I'm an awesome pet parent and have people to back that up so I can't see them denying me. But she also said that if we're approved that we probably won't get Kricket for a week cause she's so busy and has a ton of paperwork to fill out. Ok, but I'm so excited to get the little guy here! He really seems to love dh & Deegan both, so playful and affectionate!
Wish me luck & I'll keep everyone posted.

Oh I am so happy for you. Soooo, you have to wait till monday. I know that will seem like a lifetime, and then another week, will seem even longer. But I am sure you will be able to get Kricket. Will hubby be picking out the name? Will be praying everything goes the way you want. The excitment will be building up for another week. Do keep us posted.

Congratulations, I'm so happy for you and hope everything works out ok. Many of our DHs feel a need to "be in charge", so including him in naming and other aspects will make him feel more a part of it all. We all know it doesn't take long for these furbabies to win your heart.... so just get him home and let the magic happen! Oh, and bless you for giving this little guy a wonderful home and life.

Yeah, this next week is gonna be torture for me!!! I'll probably be completely swamped at work since the office has been closed for a week and a half for the holidays, so that means one of two things - either it will help me keep my mind off of the anticipation OR I'll be too distracted to get anything accomplished.
Oh and, in my earlier post about how the rescue people came over to interview us and how particular they are, wow! Very - but yes, it's good, however there were some things that I wasn't sure of. I can appreciate the fact that they want to check with my vet & come see the house, and check the backyard. They're even making us put locks on our gates, which is fine because is would make me feel better about people not leaving it open or people coming in who shouldn't be. But when I told them I have Deegan on Revolution, they kinda gasped and said that's not a good product that I should think about changing him to Heart Guard & Advantage... I've used Revolution for years and never had a problem...but when I had my other dog on Advantage, he had reactions to it. Plus I thought I heard that those two products weren't very good... I think I'm going to stick with what I've been using, but just wanted to hear anyone elses thoughts on it.

It sounds like things are headed in the right direction! I know the wait will be hard, but it will be worth it. Hopefully, work will keep your mind distracted from all things Kricket, and will help the time pass more quickly!

I don't know anything about the different brands of medicine. I can't imagine they wouldn't approve you just because of that.

Good luck!

I have always used the Advantage, and HeartGuard, but I asked my Vet what was best?? The woman I spoke with said, Well it's like this. I use what you use, but if you ask some of the other girls that work here, they will give you a different answer. It all depends on what works for you. The good thing about it all, is that you use Something! So I am not too sure there is a Correct answer, or Wrong answer. Keep on using what you are using. It works for you.
