| Please, I feel so helpless! It pains me to have to write this but keely is sick. And i cannot get her to the Vet She stopped eating about 4 days ago and would eat VERY little amounts (I thought it was her being picky at first) . Yesterday She ate normally. And this morning she ate all of her breakfast. BUt she threw up about 7 times in the last 3 hours (The first two times they were big vomits, with food and stuff, but the last 4 have been very very small consisting of a yellowy and white foamy liquid. I suck at dealing with this kind of thing. And I feel helpless because i cant help her. The vets office has been closed for the last few days (Dont ask why cause' i dunno) And we live in such a small area the E-vet is 4 hours away. And they will only take her in if she has been hit by a car or seizing or something VERY serious. But i feel this is serious inna way and i feel like crap. She looks so sad. I hate seeing her like this! I also feel bad for dumping this on you guys but i need help and suggestions! The E-vet wont even take our calls and help us that way! I am a worry wort and I ave been crying off and on for the last 3 hours. She played normally today. and we were outside. I just dont know what to do. I have a huge lump in my throat, and it may be nothing at all but it could be serious. She has been eating so badly, and she threw up once or twice before in the last few days but mom didnt tell Last edited by Keely_momma; 01-01-2009 at 02:10 PM. |

| try boiled hambuger or boiled chicken and rice. Take off all other food, fast for a few hours. Water only. Then start on either of the boiled options. Drain the grease.

| Try chicken broth and rice. That would be gentle on her stomach.

| I have no ideas about what is wrong, or how you can help. My only thought is that I would look in the phone book or online for any other emergency vets I could find and call to explain your situation. I'm sure you would find someone, somewhere, to help you! I don't know about your phone service, but my home phone allows me to call anywhere in the country (US) for no extra charge, and I think I can call pretty far with my cell phone, too. I realize l/d rates might be a concern, but if you have a good phone plan, start making calls. I can even look up some e-vet numbers in my area, if you like. Good luck, and I hope this is nothing serious, and that Keely feels better real soon! |

| If your feeding Kibble, take her off immediately. She's hungry but whatever your feeding her is making her extremely ill and she could die. Put her on some white rice and boiled chicken. Also buy some Nutri-Cal and give her what the directions say for her size. Give her bottled water, never tap. Let us know how she's doing.

Furbutts = LOVE Donating Member Moderator | Oh my gosh, poor Keely ! And poor you for being in this situation! Is there NO OTHER vet you can take her to at all besides that ER vet? I'm very concerned bc this could a life/death situation. What is going on w/ her poo these last few days? Okay...you must keep her hydrated - add honey or karo or even sugar to her water to try and make the water enticing. If she will not drink, you need to use a non-needle syringe and force water into her. You can also try to give her Pedialyte. I would not give any fat at all, and very limited protein. Get some canned or fresh potatoes - micro them (or cook) and then mash them. I really would give only these until you can get her into the vet for blood work. Honestly, I'd be very hesitant to give home remedies, given her symptoms. But since you are in such a terrible situation - you could give 1tsp Pepto (liquid) right now - and more later. She really does need to see a vet - so I hope your vet's office opens soon. What does their answering machine say? Are her gums pink or white? How old is she?

| boiled chicken , white rice, chicken baby food would be ok... Tiny amount often would be best I would think. I would stay away from Chicken broth unless it is the broth you boiled the chicken in...(No salt or anything added in) My vet had me fast my dog for a few hours, when he was sick but he was over a year old... his tummy needed a rest. God Bless and I'll be praying!

| Thank you everybody who has replied. I will take all advice to heart. Keely turned 8 months on Dec. 24th. Her gums look fine as well. A litter paler then ussual. BUt not very much. There are NO vets I can get to. You have to understand that it is EXTREMLY difficult to find one at the best of times. And the one we frequntly use is closed, and i have no idea why. The machine says what it always says It says that they are closed and to lv name and number and leaves the E-vet number in case of emergancy (Alot of good that does) Dad drove her to the vet and doors were locked and lights were off. NObody in sight. Her poops seem fine. Color is a little off , but isnt thats a normal accurance when nutritional needs arent being met? Poops dont look serios to me. I dont suspect a blackage, other wise, she woouldnt be pooping. I will try giving her some potato. Also anput her kibble. Shes been eating from this bag of kibble for a few weeks. And she was fine up until a few days ago. Wouldnt something have happened before this? |

| Ask A Vet Online Web Site Go online and see if you can find a website for dogs with medical problems... like a webmd.com which is for people. Don't give her greasy food, try fasting with only water for the rest of the day. Do you have nutracal or karo syrup to rub a little on her gum? Nutracal is a high calorie gel to prevent and treat hypoglycemia (spelling??!!) How much does she weigh and how old is she? When you feed her don't give greasy or heavy food like meats, just plain rice or kibbles. Is she having diarhhea also? Did she eat any table food over the holiday I can't recall the name of the illness, it's common over the holidays and dogs end up having to be hospitalized to treat it, find a vet as soon as possible. | Oh I feel for you. I have one that is sick also. I just called and talked to the vet. His sggestion was to give him asprin and bring him in tomorrow morning. If she is playing, chances are it is not life threatening. When mine won't eat, I give them water with karo in it to prevent hypoglycemia, also baby rice is easy on their stomach. I hope she gets to feeling better soon. |
