Please, I feel so helpless! It pains me to have to write this but keely is sick. And i cannot get her to the Vet:eek: She stopped eating about 4 days ago and would eat VERY little amounts (I thought it was her being picky at first) . Yesterday She ate normally. And this morning she ate all of her breakfast. BUt she threw up about 7 times in the last 3 hours (The first two times they were big vomits, with food and stuff, but the last 4 have been very very small consisting of a yellowy and white foamy liquid. I suck at dealing with this kind of thing. And I feel helpless because i cant help her. The vets office has been closed for the last few days (Dont ask why cause' i dunno:confused:) And we live in such a small area the E-vet is 4 hours away. And they will only take her in if she has been hit by a car or seizing or something VERY serious. But i feel this is serious inna way and i feel like crap. She looks so sad. :( I hate seeing her like this! I also feel bad for dumping this on you guys but i need help and suggestions! The E-vet wont even take our calls and help us that way! :thumbdown I am a worry wort and I ave been crying off and on for the last 3 hours. She played normally today. and we were outside. I just dont know what to do. I have a huge lump in my throat, and it may be nothing at all but it could be serious. She has been eating so badly, and she threw up once or twice before in the last few days but mom didnt tell :(:thumbdown |
Anyything i can do to ease her stomache? I dont want her to dehydrate:eek: |
try boiled hambuger or boiled chicken and rice. Take off all other food, fast for a few hours. Water only. Then start on either of the boiled options. Drain the grease. |
Has she been having bm's? |
Try chicken broth and rice. That would be gentle on her stomach. |
I have no ideas about what is wrong, or how you can help. My only thought is that I would look in the phone book or online for any other emergency vets I could find and call to explain your situation. I'm sure you would find someone, somewhere, to help you! I don't know about your phone service, but my home phone allows me to call anywhere in the country (US) for no extra charge, and I think I can call pretty far with my cell phone, too. I realize l/d rates might be a concern, but if you have a good phone plan, start making calls. I can even look up some e-vet numbers in my area, if you like. Good luck, and I hope this is nothing serious, and that Keely feels better real soon! |
If your feeding Kibble, take her off immediately. She's hungry but whatever your feeding her is making her extremely ill and she could die. Put her on some white rice and boiled chicken. Also buy some Nutri-Cal and give her what the directions say for her size. Give her bottled water, never tap. Let us know how she's doing. |
Oh my gosh, poor Keely :(! And poor you for being in this situation! Is there NO OTHER vet you can take her to at all besides that ER vet? I'm very concerned bc this could a life/death situation. What is going on w/ her poo these last few days? Okay...you must keep her hydrated - add honey or karo or even sugar to her water to try and make the water enticing. If she will not drink, you need to use a non-needle syringe and force water into her. You can also try to give her Pedialyte. I would not give any fat at all, and very limited protein. Get some canned or fresh potatoes - micro them (or cook) and then mash them. I really would give only these until you can get her into the vet for blood work. Honestly, I'd be very hesitant to give home remedies, given her symptoms. But since you are in such a terrible situation - you could give 1tsp Pepto (liquid) right now - and more later. She really does need to see a vet - so I hope your vet's office opens soon. What does their answering machine say? Are her gums pink or white? How old is she? |
If her gums feel tacky (sticky to the touch)...she is dehydrated. |
boiled chicken , white rice, chicken baby food would be ok... Tiny amount often would be best I would think. I would stay away from Chicken broth unless it is the broth you boiled the chicken in...(No salt or anything added in) My vet had me fast my dog for a few hours, when he was sick but he was over a year old... his tummy needed a rest. God Bless and I'll be praying! |
Thank you everybody who has replied. I will take all advice to heart. Keely turned 8 months on Dec. 24th. Her gums look fine as well. A litter paler then ussual. BUt not very much. There are NO vets I can get to. You have to understand that it is EXTREMLY difficult to find one at the best of times. And the one we frequntly use is closed, and i have no idea why. The machine says what it always says  It says that they are closed and to lv name and number and leaves the E-vet number in case of emergancy (Alot of good that does) Dad drove her to the vet and doors were locked and lights were off. NObody in sight. Her poops seem fine. Color is a little off , but isnt thats a normal accurance when nutritional needs arent being met? Poops dont look serios to me. I dont suspect a blackage, other wise, she woouldnt be pooping. I will try giving her some potato. Also anput her kibble. Shes been eating from this bag of kibble for a few weeks. And she was fine up until a few days ago. Wouldnt something have happened before this? |
Ask A Vet Online Web Site Go online and see if you can find a website for dogs with medical problems... like a webmd.com which is for people. Don't give her greasy food, try fasting with only water for the rest of the day. Do you have nutracal or karo syrup to rub a little on her gum? Nutracal is a high calorie gel to prevent and treat hypoglycemia (spelling??!!) How much does she weigh and how old is she? When you feed her don't give greasy or heavy food like meats, just plain rice or kibbles. Is she having diarhhea also? Did she eat any table food over the holiday I can't recall the name of the illness, it's common over the holidays and dogs end up having to be hospitalized to treat it, find a vet as soon as possible. I tried contacting her breeder for advice, But she isnt at home. Sometimes i forget that she is still a regular person that likes to go out when i call and get no answer, But im very stressed nbow and wish i had her help too :( |
Oh I feel for you. I have one that is sick also. I just called and talked to the vet. His sggestion was to give him asprin and bring him in tomorrow morning. If she is playing, chances are it is not life threatening. When mine won't eat, I give them water with karo in it to prevent hypoglycemia, also baby rice is easy on their stomach. I hope she gets to feeling better soon. |

Thank you. She Never gets table scraps anymore. Because it has caused us a few problems already in the past. Shes 8 months and Almost 8 lbs. Not very small considering her Breed. |
You could also call the ASPCA Poison Control line - I believe it is staffed by vets/professionals. The number is (888) 426-4435. You could at least rule out a poisonous situation (though I doubt this) AND you may get some other advice. They may consult a bit for free - if it gets more involved, they may want to charge $60. |
Money doesnt matter as long as I can get my baby some help! I really feel bad that I cannot do much more then ask for help online :( Even though everybody is helping alot but im sure you all know what i mean.. |

A little update even though its only been a few minutes.. I baked her a potato, a very small one and fed half. I spoon fed her because i was afraid she would woof it down too fast if she was allowed to eat on her own. If all goes well in the next hour or so, she will have the other half. She drank 5 tsps of water (she would drink on her own so i used the spoon again and she drank, not as much as i would have liked but everylittle bit helps! YOu may not believe this but she is up and ready to play! But i dont know if i should let her:confused: Do you think its a good idea? She has alot of energy all ready? I never wold have guessed. I am seriously considering goong across to nova scotia on the ferry tomorrow if she isnt better. But im also worried the trip would be too hard on her. I am feeling a little better because shes keeping the potato down so far. And her eyes seem brighter. Its amazing how fast they can change, from the good and from the bad! Although i am Very happy that she is feeling better. I am still Obviously very very worried. I am thinking that if she continues to feel better, that i will just feed her rice andd chicken for the next week or so? Of course the vet visit will still be in oorder as soon as it opens up! Seriously though, Its been like 15-20 minutes! And she is already so much better. Still not perfect, but better! |
First of all, don't feel guilty. It sounds like you are doing the very best you can possibly do for little Keely. Since you are dealing with an upset and sensitive tummy, I would be very careful about what you feed her. Try to decide upon one of the suggestions given and stick to it. White rice can be cooked in defatted chicken broth to make it more tasty - so can a potato. An electrolyte such as Pediolyte will help keep her hydrated. I agree with Yorkiedaze about the dog food. Sometimes it takes an accumulation of evil ingredients to make a dog sick. |
I am so glad to hear that Keely is doing better. I would keep her on the baked potato rather than risk adding something else until her tummy is feeling better. You are right, it IS amazing how quickly they can go from being perfectly healthy, to deathly sick, to healthy again. |
One more thing..... I homecook for my guys so they get table food. I have started cooking healthier for the human family as well cause we tend to get the doggie leftovers. My guys get a huge variety of whole grains, lentels, pasta, rice, vegetables, fruits and meats. It is relaly neat that I am able to cook one meal, fix the dogs a plate and then fix mine. That doesn't happen very often - yet - but one day I hope that we will be "eating out of the same pot". |
What a relief to read your update! I would try to keep her less active until you're sure her tummy is nice and settled. I am so glad the potato helped! Sometimes, a little carb in the tummy can help immensely - both in giving energy and in settling the juices. I'd still be careful w/ fats/proteins until she is really feeling better and/or you see the vet. :) |
Thank you all. It is soo releiving to be able to come online and get so much help, and encouragment. So thank you. Keely is MY first dog that i am almost totally responsible for. My parents pay for food and vetting but everything else is up to me. So i feel terrible that i may have done somehitng or given her something to make her sick:( We had a Samoyed huskey for 13 years who passed away a just a short while ago. All her life nothing was ever wrong with her, so my mom is also unexerianced in this department. The only time she had to see a vet was for her annual check up and vaccs. So yea, were unexperianced:( |
hope everythings ok!! |
Just reading your post. Hope your baby is doing better now. They are so little. Sending a great big hug from Coco Pebbles and Trixie :ghug: |
It sounds like she\'s doing better already. That\'s great! I hope that she\'s back to feeling 100% very soon. |
Someone posted this info on YT before and I cut it out and taped it on my kitchen cabinet along with the poisonous food for dogs. "You can call the University of Pennsylvania Vet Hospital for FREE advice 24 hrs a day 215-746-8911." I have never tried it but I wrote it down just in case. |
I hope your pup gets better! |
