You could also call the ASPCA Poison Control line - I believe it is staffed by vets/professionals. The number is (888) 426-4435. You could at least rule out a poisonous situation (though I doubt this) AND you may get some other advice. They may consult a bit for free - if it gets more involved, they may want to charge $60. |
Money doesnt matter as long as I can get my baby some help! I really feel bad that I cannot do much more then ask for help online :( Even though everybody is helping alot but im sure you all know what i mean.. |

A little update even though its only been a few minutes.. I baked her a potato, a very small one and fed half. I spoon fed her because i was afraid she would woof it down too fast if she was allowed to eat on her own. If all goes well in the next hour or so, she will have the other half. She drank 5 tsps of water (she would drink on her own so i used the spoon again and she drank, not as much as i would have liked but everylittle bit helps! YOu may not believe this but she is up and ready to play! But i dont know if i should let her:confused: Do you think its a good idea? She has alot of energy all ready? I never wold have guessed. I am seriously considering goong across to nova scotia on the ferry tomorrow if she isnt better. But im also worried the trip would be too hard on her. I am feeling a little better because shes keeping the potato down so far. And her eyes seem brighter. Its amazing how fast they can change, from the good and from the bad! Although i am Very happy that she is feeling better. I am still Obviously very very worried. I am thinking that if she continues to feel better, that i will just feed her rice andd chicken for the next week or so? Of course the vet visit will still be in oorder as soon as it opens up! Seriously though, Its been like 15-20 minutes! And she is already so much better. Still not perfect, but better! |
First of all, don't feel guilty. It sounds like you are doing the very best you can possibly do for little Keely. Since you are dealing with an upset and sensitive tummy, I would be very careful about what you feed her. Try to decide upon one of the suggestions given and stick to it. White rice can be cooked in defatted chicken broth to make it more tasty - so can a potato. An electrolyte such as Pediolyte will help keep her hydrated. I agree with Yorkiedaze about the dog food. Sometimes it takes an accumulation of evil ingredients to make a dog sick. |
I am so glad to hear that Keely is doing better. I would keep her on the baked potato rather than risk adding something else until her tummy is feeling better. You are right, it IS amazing how quickly they can go from being perfectly healthy, to deathly sick, to healthy again. |
One more thing..... I homecook for my guys so they get table food. I have started cooking healthier for the human family as well cause we tend to get the doggie leftovers. My guys get a huge variety of whole grains, lentels, pasta, rice, vegetables, fruits and meats. It is relaly neat that I am able to cook one meal, fix the dogs a plate and then fix mine. That doesn't happen very often - yet - but one day I hope that we will be "eating out of the same pot". |
What a relief to read your update! I would try to keep her less active until you're sure her tummy is nice and settled. I am so glad the potato helped! Sometimes, a little carb in the tummy can help immensely - both in giving energy and in settling the juices. I'd still be careful w/ fats/proteins until she is really feeling better and/or you see the vet. :) |
Thank you all. It is soo releiving to be able to come online and get so much help, and encouragment. So thank you. Keely is MY first dog that i am almost totally responsible for. My parents pay for food and vetting but everything else is up to me. So i feel terrible that i may have done somehitng or given her something to make her sick:( We had a Samoyed huskey for 13 years who passed away a just a short while ago. All her life nothing was ever wrong with her, so my mom is also unexerianced in this department. The only time she had to see a vet was for her annual check up and vaccs. So yea, were unexperianced:( |
hope everythings ok!! |
Just reading your post. Hope your baby is doing better now. They are so little. Sending a great big hug from Coco Pebbles and Trixie :ghug: |
It sounds like she\'s doing better already. That\'s great! I hope that she\'s back to feeling 100% very soon. |
Someone posted this info on YT before and I cut it out and taped it on my kitchen cabinet along with the poisonous food for dogs. "You can call the University of Pennsylvania Vet Hospital for FREE advice 24 hrs a day 215-746-8911." I have never tried it but I wrote it down just in case. |
I hope your pup gets better! |
