I believe yorkie tail docking was originally done to prevent the tail from being injured during ratting/hunting. I do think docking makes a yorkie look in balance more so than with natural tails. Also, done early enough and properly there shouldn't be much pain (if any) for the puppy involved. If the breeder were to wait and ask the new puppy owners their preference, it would be too late and would require surgery to be done.

We have quite a few YT members with yorkie tails left natural and they are very cute either way.

Yes, BUT.. There are responsible breeders working with the CKC to change that. I think they now accept dobies with natural ears. BUt we have to take it one step at a time..If all goes well, natural and Cropped/docked will be accepted! I hope this happens VERY soon!

We may not get our ears cropped but how many moms have had their baby daughter's ears pierced and I know that is painful! So, humans often do hurtful things to themselves and others, in the name of vanity.

i think the video show's that he or she did have pain

My thoughts exactly... Its right up there with declawing a cat. Because they cant tell you they are in pain doesnt mean they arent in pain.

I dont think that its as traumatic as most people think. My puppies only cry for about a minute and then they are put back on mom. I never hear another distress peep out of them. Alot of docking and cropping are done for cleanliness and health issues, especially dew claws. But it seems to be a cruel world: babies are circumsized, lambs tails are docked and goats horns are burned off, ears and other body parts are pierced, animals are spayed, neutered, gelded and bulls have rings in their noses. These, to me, seem much worse than docking tails on Yorkies.

NObody said they agreed with all those other things.


Pets are spayed, nuetered, Gelded, FOfr a perfectly legitament reason. TO control pet overpopulatioon. A mal dog smells a intact female, it will stop at nothing to get to her when shes in heat. Risks getting lost, hit by a car etc. Tail docking yorkies tails these days is done without reason. Just for looks. My girl wouldnt have anymore helath issues with a full length tail, but if she wasnt spayed she has a better chance at getting certian cancers, dying during birth, Etc etc.

Tail docking and declawing a cat are not even close to the same thing.

And, although the video posted does show the puppy crying out, I believe my son cried more with his first vaccinations. I'm thinking you were more scarred by the tail docking than the puppies were.

I dunno...the video makes me wish that Missy's tail hadn't been docked. But hey, that's out of my control. It was done before I even met her.

I think it's cruel, only because it's done for cosmetic purposes. I'm sure if these puppies could talk, they'd prefer that their tails be left intact.

needles are needed due to health....like cat declawing, needles are not the same as tails cut off

That was not my point. Alot of people think its fine to declaw a cat because they dont seem to be in pain. Wrong. ANImals do very well at hiding their pain. Because in the wild, the weakest link of the pack is the most vulnorable to predators etc. I was saying that , not because i think that declawing a cat is the equivelent of docking a dogs tail, but because people think its fine to declaw a cat, but in reality its one of the most painful procedures for a cat, and its like a human cuting there finger off from the first knuckle. NOt very pleasent.

its sad...and im sure if you had the decision you wouldnt have had her tail cut off

I was trying to give examples of "pain" analogy. In my opinion, docking Yorkie tails doesnt come close to the "pain" of burning goat horns. And there is a reason for all of the "pain" in each of the examples I gave, except for body piercing. Evidentally, you did not get the point of my post.
