| For the occasional marking like you said, a belly band would work great for training! I think some YT people make them. Or if you dont have access to a pet store that sells belly bands: a temporary fix, you could try a baby onesie. Just put it on backwards so the tail sticks out between the snaps. Plus, they look really cute in them.

| If you get him, the first thing I would do is have him neutered. Then, really start working him with lots of love, praises and treats on housebreaking. |

| Neutering may help, but since he is three, he will probably continue marking after being neutered. In this case, it's best to assume the worst and ask yourself if you can live with a dog that marks. As Crystal said, expect that he will have some vet bills upfront - neutering, perhaps a dental, vaccinations, bloodwork, etc. Also expect that he may have luxating patellas since they are so common. Again, it's best to think worse case as far as money upfront. Since you don't know his background, you may face other health issues down the road. If you are prepared to deal with his marking and expect some significant vet bills, I think adopting this guy is a wonderful idea. Lady is a rescue and although she costs me a fortune in vet bills, she is worth every penny. You've never been loved until you've been loved by a rescue IMO. |

| As far as marking, my recently rescued little guy is about 5 yrs old; foster mom had him neutered right before I got him. She said he did mark before neutering but almost totally stopped after that. I keep a belly band on him if I can't closely watch him, and I've only seen two spots on it that were probably marking (not enough for pee). Also my daughter's silky terrier was the worst dog I have ever seen for marking when she first rescued him! He would literally run through the living room with his leg lifted, leaving a trail of marking on the sofa or any other vertical object! It was crazy...but as soon as he was neutered he almost totally stopped marking. Of course, like another post said - you do have to be prepared just in case. Belly bands are wonderful! ![]() He might be micro-chipped which would help if he has been stolen...the vet could tell you that. Either way, it's an opportunity to rescue this little guy. So sweet that your son is willing to spend his birthday money to help...what a wonderful, caring thing to do. Let us know what happens!

| Use a belly band. They are easy and fool-proof for a male that is marking. I have a stud male and he thinks he needs to mark everything now. I don't want to fuss at him all the time, so I use a belly band. You can get them at the pet store or here on YT. If that is your only concern -- go get him.
