| My First Yorkie, need to ask a question I have had my Yorkie for about 4 wks. She has had trouble with her bowel movements being hard. The vet told me to give her mineral oil. I am continuing to have to give this to her. I am not sure what food she was on, I changed her to pro plan and still having problems. I think I am going to try her on Imes food to see if it helps her. I was wondering if this is typical of a Yorkie or if it has something to do with her food. I hate giving her the mineral oil because I do not want her to become dependent on it. Thanks. |

| When you change a dogs food you need to do it slowly, mixing it in part with the old food and new food. If you switch it right away it can cause digestive problems. You may also want to look into getting better quality food, in the diet forum there is info on different types of food. One thing that can cause the feces to be hard is if the dog is not getting enough water, are you making sure that your puppy drinks water throughout the day?

| When Clarence was a pup he would get like that. Our vet said, Olive oil. It did the trick...& what they said about water. Make sure she always has access to lots of water. |

| If she's constipated, get some canned pumpkin, put a little on your finger and let her lick it off. As far as purina pro plan, that food is fine. Some people think all purina products are crap, but, this is a good one. That's what my pup is on and she came from a fantastic breeder Last edited by phfgkl; 12-16-2008 at 05:54 AM. |

| I think I would take her and get a second opinion from another vet. A puppy shouldn't have constant problems like this without cause. There could be more to this than is meeting the eye of your vet and please know that constipation if it goes on too long can cause death. JMO but if this were one of my puppies this is what I would do just to be safe.

| Both mine developed constipation on Wellness Puppy Food. I have since changed them over to Solid Gold Puppy and Voila! no more constipation. My vet also said to give them canned pumpkin (plain kind) but they both hated it. |

I feel better knowing that this is normal. I was worried for a while. Thanks. | |
