| My Yorkie does not sleep well at night...anyone else have this problem? This is driving me crazy and really affecting my sleep and my dh. We have 3 little dogs who all want to sleep with us. It started when I got my Yorkie...the other two didnt sleep with us prior to that. You all know how Yorkies are though so first one then another, then the third. Its hard enough to find room for everyone but at least the other two, pick a spot and basically stay there. Plus they can jump on and off the bed at will. Cinnamon, my Yorkie, is so restless at night. First of all, she has to be taken out so often otherwise she has accidents. If I fall asleep early, say 10, I will have to get up in the middle of the night to take her out. She seems to be so restless, tossing, turning, waking up, roaming the bedroom (we fence them in upstairs with us). I leave a water bowl so they never are thirsty. She does have skin allergies and often when she does wake up, she begins scratching and takes awhile to settle back down. Meanwhile her scratching and biting wakes me up. She also is prone to frequent disgestive issues and often I can hear her tummy rumbling at night so that may be an issue too. I have tried various diet options but all high quality and nothing makes much difference. I need to get them out of my bed as much as I like sleeping with them. I bought two new beds and tried what the trainer on Its Me or My dog did,b ut it didnt work so well here. Crates are not an option...we never have used them. Anyways, any ideas or anyone with similar problems? Thanks |

| My dogs don't sleep in my bed. We'd tried a couple of times but to be honest, I'm just not comfortable. I'm fidgeter and I roll around a lot in my sleep. One night Franklin got out of the kitchen and ran to our door and started pawing at it. My boyfriend and I thought it was cute so we just let him sleep with us. Well, the next night, he started barking and would not stop until we brought him into bed with us. At first we just kept doing it because I had roommates and we live in an apartment so I didn't want to bother them. Then it started to get really old. We decided that we'd had enough so we bought ear plugs and warned our roommates. He barked all night for the first couple of nights but now he sleeps through the night. If your dog is still a puppy (actually, at any age), I would confine her at night. What do you mean by "it didn't work"? If you don't want to crate her you can buy a playpen or just get a baby gate and close her off in one area. For instance, Franklin sleeps in our kitchen. It's hard at first -- she will whine and bark but you just have to let her do it. The more you give in, the more she will bark the next night when you don't give in. They're fast learners - once they realize it's not working, they give up and go to sleep! You may have a few sleepless nights but it sounds like you already are anyway. Maybe at night you can put down a potty pad so she can go if she needs to? Good luck!

| I would love to have my baby sleep with me, but he gets up a lot in the middle of the night to use the bathroom & drink....I don't want him jumping off my bed....I am scared he will hurt himself cause it's too high for him. I would definitely try getting them to sleep in their own beds as much as possible. Best of luck!

| This is definitely true!!! Rocky sleeps in his bed in our bedroom......he'll whine a bit & let me know he wants to sleep with us...but I just say, "Rocky, go to your bed" very nicely & he goes in his bed & falls asleep! It's still amazing to me how he understands...I'm still new at this though....only had him for 1 week today (he's my first dog every!).

Sounds like a crate would solve at least the housebreaking/roaming problem...and you would probably get much more sleep that way. | |

| Is Cinnamon getting enough exercise? If my Biggie is exhausted from playing or exercising...nothing wakes him up during the night. Occasionally Biggie will get up in the middle of the night, but I think this is due to my husband getting up to use the restroom himself. |

| Why are crates "not an option"? You really don't have many choices- you either crate, put them in an x-pen or bathroom, or put them in another room. Also sounds like the yorkie doesn't get enough exercise during the day.
