| New to YT! Hello Everyone! I am new to YT (joined last week) and really enjoy all of the insightful information YT has to offer. I just got my baby yorkie (Tobi) last Saturday and he's 7weeks. We just wanted to say hello and we're excited and happy we joined. Thanks to everyone that has posted messages and comments on our page! PS-Tobi loves to bite (shoes, socks, pants, fingers, toes-when playing)...will he ease off this habit or is there something we can do so he wont go around biting everything and everyone...lol Thanks!

| Hi! Welcome! Yogi is 4 months old and all boy! He loves to bite everything too. Whenever he starts chewing on me I just put my hand on the back of his neck, give it a very slight pinch, just enough pressure so that he knows it's not a pet, and say, "shhh! No!" then let go and ignore him. If he tries to bite again, I'll do the same, just a little more firm, then take him to a toy that he is allowed to chew on. If he sits there and just looks at me and not try to bite after the first No, then I will reward with a pet/hug/cuddle something to let him know that not biting gets good touches from me. He's very smart and picks up on what's ok and what's not pretty quickly. i.e. - what's ok is to then go chew on Daddy 'cause he doesn't care - what's not ok is to chew on the Momma. Post some pictures of your Tobi when you can!

| when he bites you, a firm no and then throw something like a ball or toy for him to go after to distract him. I got my yorkie at 7 weeks also(one day shy of 7 weeks) and she has never bitten my fingers, but, now the one I just got that is 6 mos now, has bitten me a couple times, and I just tell her NO and then refuse to play with her until she settles down. |

| Hi! and Congratulations on your new boy. He is quite young! so he may be biting for a little while yet. He'll certainly grow out of it if you patiently teach him. If they're going for your hand, with my Yorkies, I VERY gently give them a little more than they were trying to bite, which they find unpleasant, and deters them. Then replace your hand, which they've just backed away from, with a toy that is acceptable to chew on/play with. They should catch on to that quickly. With other objects, it just takes a lot of observation and persistence- catch them as often as possible while they're doing something undesirable, be firm, then present the alternative thing to chew on. Being consistent and getting all humans on the same page is key! Last edited by Fluffles; 12-09-2008 at 08:28 PM. |

| Welcome to YorkieTalk I think you'll really like it here. There's a lot of information if you're looking for answers. Already you've gotten some great tips - which quite frankly I'm taking in as well!!! My little Lily is a 4mo old that likes to bite while playing... OUCH!
