| the longest your yorkie has gone without peeing? my girl Dolly has gone 12 hours without going. I am just a little concerned. here is the story. we went out last night to a dinner party, did not get back until 3am. I took her out as soon as I got back, she went right away and everything seemed fine. this morning, I took her out again around 8:30am, she played and played for about 40mins, but did not go potty (I was watching closely). so we came back in the house, took her out again and again, she kept playing and sniffing BUT doing her business. FINALLY, she just went right before 3pm. and thats 12 hours in between. Dolly is about two years and nine months old, not a puppy anymore. but isn't it true that they cannot go longer than 8 hours? especially the smaller ones. I mean Dolly is the real small and fragile type, sometimes I think too fragile to be a dog LOL. how is it possible that she has such a strong bladder. I don't know if its because I took her out at 3am which was very unusual and that messed up her schedule, or is it a health issue? has your yorkie ever gone without peeing for this long? |

I Love My Lil' Punkin's Donating Member | My Stedman went several hours without peeing and I knew that something was wrong. He was TRYING to go though. He would lift his little leg and nothing would come out (or sometimes it would just be teeny tiny little "dribbles" of pee) - it was terrible! He also couldn't poop. I took him in right away and it turned out that he was backed up (they had to go in and "clean him out") and he also had a UTI (Urinary Tract Infection) and they had to put a catheter in him. They thought that he might possibly have a stone and if so, he would have needed surgery, but after several x-rays and after him being put on meds and peeing like normal again, it turned out that he didn't have one (a stone) - thank God! I would get your little angel to the vet right away. If she hasn't pee'd in 12 hours, something is going on. This can also be very painful for them if they need to go, and can't

| I called the vet around noon, and they said its unusual but not really considered a problem yet, they told me to wait and see. and she didn't seem she was even trying to go. she usually makes a big deal when she was about/trying to go, considering that she has to go in the grass and she HATES the grass, because she is so low to the ground and even the low grass would make her uncomfortable. she would never go in the grass unless she is trying to go, and she would go crazy in circles, change spots even for peeing because of the grass. but she did not do none of that this morning, she was just sniffing on the sidewalk and chasing my mom's chihuahua. |

I Love My Lil' Punkin's Donating Member | Haha awww, sniffing the sidewalk and chasing your moms Dhihuahua, how cute!! If she doesn't pee by tonight, I would most DEFINITELY take her in to see the vet tomorrow. These little ones bladders are very small...and there is just no way she could be "holding" it that long. If she doesn't go potty by tonight, I think something is going on for sure. Good luck to her and please keep us posted!

| Summer goes 11 hours almost every night sometimes longer..... Summer is 4 pounds, and is very fragile and small also. I let her out around 8 every night and she doesn't go out again until 7 am, sometimes later on the weekends. She also goes out every 6 hours during the day. I think some bladders are stronger than others. I would check her out if she isn't going a good amount though. Just wanted to let you know it isn't real unusual that she went that long. She is 2 years and 6 mths. old.

YT 2000 Club Member | my toy poodle is only 4 pounds and she can hold it 12 hours easily and has never had a problem, she only goes out 4 times day. My little guy who is 10.5 weeks can hold itfor 5/6 hours at night. He goes out a 9 then not again until 1 or 2 a.m per his request, he whines I take him out and he goes, I take him out every 1.5 to 2 hours though during the day. I guess I just have a hard time believing that because of thier size they arent suppose to be able to hold it more than 8 hours? My bigger dogs have a harder time holding it more than my little guys do. I hope she stays healthy for you.

| Lil' Miss Izzie is 7.5 lbs and goes first thing in the morning @ 6:30am, once again sometime during the day while I'm at work and then once again at 9:00 pm before bedtime. On the weekends the routine remains the same except she will wait till 7:00/8:00 in the morning if I am lucky enough to sleep in

| I just took Dolly out at 1am, and she went right away with pretty good amount as well. so Im a lil releaved. Im so surprised to know that so many of the yorkies can go through such a long time without peeing. I've read articles about small dogs should never gone over 8 hours, and they are sooooooooo difficult to potty train. but I guess from what I see/learned, its not exactly the case. |
