| Just can't win! I thought I would post and let everyone know I probably will not be around too much for the next couple days. I just have the worst luck ever and when one thing happens more to come always! I was just laid off from work, couldn't happen at a better time right before Christmas. To top that off my car broke down also and will cost me about $350 for repairs. AND because things just could not get any worse, they did. I was using nair on my legs yesterday afternoon and Stormy came into the bathroom and had rubbed her face against my leg. Before I could pick her up she had licked some off of her nose and got it on her tongue and lip. I wiped it off but of course a decent sized chunk of hair came off of her cheek I quickly washed her up and fed her some food and water and gave her some milk in case she had ingested any. It didn't seem like she did and she was acting normal. She had a mild reaction to it and had a little swelling that as went down all the way now. But her mouth is still a little sore and she is having a hard time eating so I am using a syringe with dog food to feed her and give her water, she will drink on her own but I know the tip of her tongue is very sore. I called the vet and spoke with them and basically I am doing all I can right now, I'm putting some creme on her cheek to help with the redness and yesterday evening she was just a huge cuddle bug and would not be put down. I the worry wart I am was up all night again with her. I was so worried for her but at 5:30am she took her first pee and poop, the urine was a little dark yellow but the poop was pretty normal. This morning she was feeling better, walking around trying to jump off the couch. I can tell she wants to eat by herself but she is just sore, I've giving her some baby tylenol to help with any pain. The vet said if she isn't getting better I will then need to bring her in so please keep her in your prayers! I guess one good thing comes out of being laid off, at least I can be home taking care of her. I had to go out today for a couple hours and when I came home she was even shaking her butt and wagging her little stumpy so I hope she continues to feel better. Any one have any ideas of any other creme I could put on or any other advice, I'd appriciate it thanks. Last edited by yorkie_mama22; 12-03-2008 at 02:27 PM. |

| Baby tylenol? Did the vet say to give it? Dogs should never ever have tylenol. It is extremely toxic to them. I think I'd run blood work on her right away to see if it has done any damage... Acetaminophen Toxicity in Dogs

| noo no it's not that kind. It is actually called Tempra, it is for babies. It is a pain reliever. I was told it is okay to give a little by the vet previously. I also know some well known breeders who give it to their yorkies when need be. And just to add, this is why I called and spoke with the vet because like I mentioned my car just broke down and I am not working, I do not have the money at the moment. My car has to wait also. If she gets worse and I have no choice but to bring her in I will but right now if she seems to be doing well I was told it is okay for her to be home and continue doing what I am. | My vet recommends half of an 81mg. Bayer asprin for pain. That is the baby one but never Tylenol. |

| I don't use tylenol myself so I don't have any in the house! I am just used to calling the Tempra baby tylenol for some reason, sorry for my mixup. |

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | Tempra is ACETAMINOPHEN and so is Tylenol. They are just brand names of the same thing. I wouldn't use it. It can be toxic to the liver.

| yes I have just realized that it is also, I am not giving her any more. I just called the vet again and told him my situation. I would be able to pay for everything but not til next week, the vet is calling the owners and speaking to them, hopefully they will let me bring her in to get checked out and whatever medical expenses are incurred they will let me pay next week. This is going to be one heck of a long wait for him to call back. |

| Well I am posting an update and I need everyones prayers now. I brought her in to the vet. Her mouth was starting to smell and it turns out that she has an infection in her mouth, they gave her an IV drip and some pain killers and antibiotics too. He wanted to keep her for a few days but they would charge me 450 for tonight and then almost 300$ for the following nights. He said she can go home and we continue doing what we have been just now give her the medications he has given her. He wanted to keep her just so they could look out for her. He said though that is she is not getting better in a couple days we may have to put her down. I really don't think she got too much ingested but he said if she has damaged inside her throat that it would be very very expensive to treat and that our best option would be to put her down. I am hoping for the best. I broke down at the vet, my mom came and thank goodness for her, she paid for the vet bill today, early Christmas gift. For the next couple days my mom has offered to take Stormy home and take care of her. My mom is home all day, she had a work injury so she has the time and her house is very quite without little children running around like here. Thankfully my mom lives close enough for me to go over everyday and see my baby. Oh how I pray she is going to be okay, this is so hard, she is such a little fighter. So I will update again on how shes doing. Thank you for all the thoughts and prayers already it means alot to me. |
