I've been comparing Innova vs Innova EVO and have found that EVO is too rich in protein and fat levels for pet dogs. It is suggested for working dogs, herding dogs, etc. You should not feed the puppy kind to puppies, just the adult kind. You should get the small bites. I read a lot of peoples experiences and the EVO they had much firmer stools than with regular Innova. I probably would steer clear from EVO when Gucci is a puppy but possibly switch to it when he is 10 months or older. I'm not sure which kind I'm going to feed but I probably will feed EVO. Max is really active so he gets a lot of exercise (three 1-1.5 mile walks/runs a day and a trip to the park). I just found this:

That's what I read other places. In this case, I would research a bit about different dog foods and see what % levels should be given to puppies and find a grain free dog food for Gucci. I think regular Innova has high protein levels too, but I think it is a bit better for puppies. Just don't give the puppy kind because puppies should not be encouraged to grow too fast for their bones. That is what I would do because of what I have read but you can do whatever. The concern was mainly for larger breeds. Let me know if you need anymore help.

Vanessa, you are correct in the high protein and growth for puppies in large breeds, I am not to sure about smaller breeds but with large breeds this is very true. I know a lot of breeders in the pitbulls (bully style ones) feed their dogs HIGH amounts of protein to encourage their bones and muscle to build faster for a bullier look.. I DO NOT AGREE WITH THIS AT ALL, as I think it goes agains the way the pup was intended to grow but it does happen.

So Innova puppy or just Innova small bites for GUCCI? I am still a little confused and the food and health section has SO MUCH I don't know what to choose lol

He is cute with baby pudge. I wouldn't worry about it... just exercise him and feed him the proper amount. He'll grow and his body will "fill in" his weight. He doesn't look overweight to me. Just cute :D

So I opted to go with Innova Puppy, Only concern is that the bites are a bit large for him... does anyone think this will be a problem or have you had experience with your yorkie's handling this fine?

Your puppy is cute! How old is he now? I have heard of the "cobby" look and usually it is given to describe a square and short look.

Sookie - Glad to hear that, his vet had made me worry I was possibley doing something wrong with him lol but I then started realizing people were saying he looked cobby (thought it was bad so I researched it lol) I then noticed that may be why he looks chubby. Thank you for the reply.

Hi 1st off THANK YOU! he is 12 weeks now, I thought cobby was bad at first lol then I researched and saw it wasn't .. it just meant square, that made us feel much better!

Your puppy is a doll and honestly, the cobby build is the way that you want a Yorkie to be built. I always thought that my Livi was super square but not compared to Isabeau. I love the way that these guys with the square bodies look. Isabeau's legs are even short...is this how Gucci is?

You're correct that it's bad for an adult dog to be overweight. As an adult, you should be able to run your hand down his side and be able to feel his ribs. But even if he is carrying a couple ounces right now, he can grow out of it, just like a human baby. Especially if he is active, which you say he is.
