So looks adorable. But you are right and a good haircut will make her lok a lot different. Some times they need to grow into their selves. My Sissy was a skinny scrawny looking like one but now is beautiful. I was sure she wasn't all yorkie at the time but now is more standard looking than my mail |

Cuz and I went shopping today and she bought her a cute outfit, carrier and portable water bowl (now those were really cute, zipped up to this little bitty thing then unfolded into a water bowl). I also discussed letting her hair grow out, getting her ear hair clipped right, and not cutting those bangs in the front. I think she's gonna come around. |
I agree with everyone...she is really cute. Ok except that in the pic someone is squeezin' her face off!:p |
Well, I think the pup is adorable. Yorkies aren't all going to look the same. I think she looks like a yorkie. Probably just doesn't have champion lines, but still cute. |

We're going to work on her. |
Well, I just read through this entire thread. Glad finally to see a pic of this pup we were talking about. On that note....from what I can tell from that picture, Kaya is very cute and DOES look like a yorkie to me. I would have liked to see a picture of her whole body, but I see nothing non-yorkie about her. She may not match all the yorkie standards exactly, but how many do? Looks to me like she just needs a good grooming and a top-knot! You say your cousin is very "status" minded. Well in order for ANY yorkie to look it's best, it needs a good grooming schedule. Not saying by any means that your cousin doesn't take good care of Kaya, just that if she groomed her more often and as yorkies should be, Kaya may look more like other yorkies! I don't know, I don't see that big of a problem with the way Kaya looks, but then I have a smorgasboard of yorkies in my Fab Four & I love them all. |
Am I missing something here? Your cousin has had a year to fall in love with this baby which, I assume she has bragged about for a year, until she saw another yorkie and is now making comparisons with other yorkies and is upset with you??? I think I would rehome the cousin and keep the dog... A yorkie is a wonderful breed and they come in all shapes and sizes, if she was looking for something more specific she should not have trusted anyone else to find her 'perfect' dog. Don't beat yourself up over it. |
I don't think you have anything to feel guilty about now. You have learned about pet stores and won't do that again, and you gave your very status conscious cousin a sweet and probably beautiful (with a good groom) little Yorkie that she loves. And she can brag about the fact that she paid $2,200 which most status conscious people like to do anyway. So I think she has the win-win situation there. Pat yourself on the back.:D |
I agree with everyone else that she looks like a yorkie. Not at all what I was expecting to see from what you described in your op. Definitely in need of a good grooming and maybe you should suggest YT to your cousin since it is quite educational and helpful. Sounds like she just needs some good information and guidence with her little one. Since Roxie was my first yorkie or small dog for that matter, coming to YT has helped me tremendously. It helped me be more relaxed with her since I was so scared I'd break her when I first got her. P.S. I must not be into the status thing since I've always been a little embarrassed to tell anyone what I paid for my baby. She was worth every penny to me and if your love for your pet is big enough I'm sure any pet owner feels that way. |
I think she looks Yorkie too. Very cute! |
That's a Yorkie....that ear hair being so long makes her look "different". She would look entirely different with more of a puppy cut and maybe a bow in her hair !!! She's nothing to be ashamed of at all. I think she's precious. |
You shouldn't beat yourself up about it. It's not like you intentionally spent that kind of money to bring home an "ugly" Yorkie (is that even possible?). My ex-husband's mother is all about status and appearances too, so I feel you on that point. But think of it like this: that is a lesson for her, not you. Her having an odd looking Yorkie could be the universe teaching her a lesson, it just sucks that the lesson had to come through you (I know about that too). If you think she is going to be all weird, then explain. No one knows what they are coming home with when it comes from the pet store. It's a sad, but very true fact. |
I just saw the picture. What is not Yorkie about her? And what part of her is ugly? Your cousin is crazy. Tell her how to put the topknot on and let it go sweetie. That is an adorable little girl. If she doesn't agree, then next time she can go out and find her own Yorkie. But I have to agree, she is Yorkie cute to me. |

Thank you so much...and I agree with you, why has she only been to a groomer one time???? Hopefully this trip and talking with someone about Kaya will get her on a better schedule. |
