You can pick up a paper at any given time and locate a breeder (now, I'm not saying that everything in the paper is good) but you usually have many to pick from, you can spend the day and go from house to house and find a decent dog, why on earth would youor anyone else buy from a puppy store, you can't even see the mother, let alone both parents and the siblings..
I breed, and usually have 1 litter a year, I am lucky as many of my puppy parents are repeat buyers or recommend me to someone and I have always sold my puppies to the best of homes. I sell my girls for $1000 and my boys for $750. They are all healthy and are 100% AKC yorkies. Yet people will go into a puppy store and pay these crazy prices for a dog they have no information on.
If you cousin loves her dog and she never brought up the fact that both girls look completley different, I wouldn't worry about it.
I guess I have one question: Why did you decide after you brought the 1st puppy home that she wasn't for you? What was that trigger? And why didn't you just bring her back. $2200. for a dog with ear mites and kennel cough? Doesn't that seem a bit high and outrageous! |
Ok for the answer on the newspaper breeder thing, look at the post above about my experience with "newspaper breeders".
Also another preciptating factor is that I had started my search, and had asked extensively on here for help, but there was none to be found. I had gone to the AKC site and gotten the names of the like one or two in this area. and they either did not return my call or didn't have litters etc. Then there was one, right near me as a matter of fact, and she kept coming up with every excuse under to sun not to let me near her house or to even bring the puppies to me.
It was almost like I couldn;t find one in Memphis, except to turn to the store thing, I was very frustrated.
Ok and to answer the health problem questions. They had me take her to the vet within 72 hours (of course you know THEIR vet is in THEIR pocket). He just brushed thses issues off as minor, said "most puppies had these problems", gave me the medicine and exam free and sent me packing with instructions as to what to do. I still did not have a good feeling, so I called my puppy counselor (code name for sales person at puppy corral), and she also said it was nothing to worry about, par for the course, not ususual, yada yada.
By this time I was already liking her, and she was so very very adorable (then), that this was the one I wanted Rachel to have.
As for why I decided she was for Rachel, and not me, I can't explain it, but I have an intuition that guides me to do almost everything, and I try to listen. I felt that is was meant for me to get Kaya, but not for myself. I had a feeling that there was another little girl out there for me ( at this point, Maya would not even have been conceived), or the time just wasn't right for me or something.
Once again, I did come onto yorkie talk at this point in time to discuss it, and everyone just could not believe I could give up a puppy so precious, but some congratulated me for doing what I felt was right and making someone else happy. I posted many pictures of Kaya and her development during this time.
