I'm not single, but I get comments from people because we don't have kids, and have NO desire to have them, they make comments like my girls are so spoil because we don't have kids, things will change if we had kids  and the reason you love your dogs so much is because you don't have kids:mad: or why you spend so much money on your dogs:thumbdown. |

LOL!!! I also am not really that *into* kids, but maybe that will change when I meet the right person...In the meantime, I love my dogs, spoil them like crazy and don't care that people expect dogs to be the prequel to kids! LOL!!!!! People always used to say that stuff with me and my ex about the dogs...It never made me want kids...just MORE dogs!!:aimeeyork:aimeeyork:aimeeyork:aimeeyork |

Well... I have a friend who is a single mom to a skin kid AND a furkid. Her boyfriend loves them both and treats them as if they are his own. He's done this from the start and is an amazing guy. So I think that if a man is turned off by your dog, then he's no good anyway. Really, I think your dog is a great way to weed out the bad ones! |

How Funny! Men are funny though. I've had one tell me has reservations because of my animals and another tell me he'd like to move me to acreage so I can have as many as I want. I think if men have a problem with single women and dogs, they just have a lot of problems to begin with. The one with reservations, well as it turns out, couldn't believe anything that came out of his mouth. I liked him a lot too. The "generous" one, couldn't believe anything that came out of his mouth either lol. I have to agree with a previous post, with some age and wisdom: I should've gotten dogs long ago. My dogs are better, truer company and they don't tell lies, don't make promises that won't be kept and don't care if my clothes match or not. Men, sure they're nice to have around but having my dogs: Priceless. |
Just to add I have two human children too. I like having the dogs because if a man can't deal with dogs, chances are he'll be bad with my human children too. Now that I am single and dating (ugh), I find that unless I'm out with my sister, I'd much rather be watching a movie or reading a book, with my furkids all around me. I think that animals in general give that unconditional love that all of us deserve, so if a man sees me walking my dogs and thinks that I'm trying to prepare for human kids, newsflash, I have them already. But then, I am usually the meanest woman in the club/bar anyway. I don't make small talk, I don't accept drinks, I'm not going home with anyone, I'm not giving my phone number out, I don't ask for numbers, and because of a misspent youth, I don't get drunk out there either. Just reading that, there are so many things that I don't do, I might as well stay at home anyway right? Lol. I should probably stop going through all the mess of getting ready and just wear a stop sign. Yeah. And like others, I'd rather be home with all my kids or in the bookstore. |
I have never heard of female dog owners as desperate. However, I am pretty sure that any guy who goes out on a date with a girl who only talks about how cute her pooches are, and how well stocked she keeps their wardrobes would probably freak out a little. I would suggest mentioning it casually "oh the other day I was walking my dog and...." Most guys would wanna know more about you and you dog. Chances are once you're past the first impressions (ie he already knows you're not some psycho) you can share more experiences regarding life with your dogs. I am 23 and never had a pet before. I got married in July and 2 weeks later Humphrey joined our little family, so I guess I can't provide any first hand experiences. DH is not crazy about our little one but he loves me and takes him out for walks and feeds him when Im at work, so I can't complain. It would be nice if he was as crazy about humphrey as I am, but I cannot force him to love my dog. I just remembered one of DH's high school friends. The guy has two dogs and whenever someone in the room talks about what their (human) babies did at school or whatever, he starts talking about his dog by name like a human so its hard to know whether he's referring to a two legged little one or the four legged kind. I used to think it was the weirdest thing ever, now I totally get it... so Id say take it easy on the doggie talk and let your dates fall for your babies at their own pace. |

I could totally see that turning off ANYONE!! I got married at 20 so I am new to the whole dating thing and while I agree, it would be nice if your hubby was as into your pup as much as you are, the fact that he helps with care and respects how into the puppy YOU are, is awesome. Plus, you are right. Any man worthy of ME would fall for my dogs!! They sell themselves...They are awesome!!:p |
