| New Puppy We are bringing home a new addition to our Family, a 8 week old Yorkie puppy next week. What is the best way to introduce her to our 2 year old male Yorkie who has always had my family's undivided attention? |

| Welcome to Yorkie Talk! I hope you enjoy it here! Well, what i would do...is when you get your new pup...have your now Yorkie met the new pup in a neutral environment...maybe a friends house or in on the sidewalk....be very careful not to give your new puppy more attention the your older Yorkie...they do get jealous...make sure he still feels like number one! Then with time you can give them the same amount of attention with out the older yorkie feeling he has to compete for your attention. Have their interactions short and supervised at first....and before you know it...they will be best friends! Hope that was helpful! |

| Kodak was 3 when I brought Kamari home at 10 weeks old and he hated her. He gave her such a hard time but she stood fast and claimed her space. They fought so much but Kodak was really mean to where I posted it here back then. LOL. Everyone told me to hold out, and he would come around. It took longer than I expected and they still fight of course but it had me to the point of giving one of them up. But now, I wouldn't trade them for the world no matter how much they go at it. Good luck with your new puppy.

| Welcome and Congratulations!! We took Oliver with us to pick Brooklyn up at the breeders. They met there. When we got home we supervised the time they were together. I used the xpen for her when she was little (until house-broken), but it was here in my family room. Oliver would go over and sniff her through the xpen....it took all of about 2 days for Oliver to decide she actually wasnt such a bad thing to have around!! Then they became buddies!! Good Luck!!

| I second the x-pen idea. That's what I would do if I was in your position. Congrats on your new pup!! |

| I had 3 in the house, whenever I introduce a new puppy(just as I did Thursday night), I bring the puppy in, show her to all 3 of the other ones, then put her down on the floor so they could all smell her and know she belonged here...My shih tzu that is going on 11, was actually the first one trying to play with the new one..This is how I've always introduced them, and have never had any problems... |

| Thanks for the great tips and welcomes Thanks for the great tips. I look forward to more in the future. I assume by xpen you guys are talking about a baby play pen, am I right? We are picking up Chloe on Dec. 3rd and we are so excited. We want to make the introduction of another dog as easy on Gizmo as possible. Thanks again and Happy Thanksgiving! Basalt |
