Very disappointed with some YT members!!!
 

I read a thread that a newbie (Babylola nyc) had made...regarding which puppy to choose!! What started out as her simply asking for opinions......turned into a free for all debate and attack on her... that ended with her closing her account and leaving YT!....and it WAS an ATTACK on her wanting to purchase a pup from MO! Noone can tell me different!

This is very disheartening to me!! I looked at YT as a great place to find friends, advice and help...I do have serious issues with situations such as this!

While giving advice is one thing...ultimately each decision is a PERSONAL one...and should be left at that! And noone was leaving it at that...facts and information were being repeated and repeated and repeated...enough already!

It's a sad day when people take their advice TOO FAR and run someone OUT OF YT!!!

I wonder how long it will take for me to start an unpopular thread and
have everyone run me out of YT too!

I saw some of that thread too....although i didnt reply to it. It really is a shame that it came to her leaving...and she was new...someone who could really need the advice and experiences...i hope she comes back

Its better some times not to reply something when you know you disagree with it then to cause an all out war on a forum so wonderful such as this place

That is really sad. I didn't see the thread so I don't know what was said, but it is sad that someone was run off for asking about as puppy.

I completely agree 100%... As she mentioned she was getting ALOT of PM's so there were quite a few people that didn't agree with how the thread was going...I wish they would have responded in the thread...looks like she could have used a little support. I came back too late....her thread was closed and she had already left YT.

What started out sweet and nice........just went way too far...i mean the thread has over 115 posts for goodness sakes!

I doubt she will ever return to YT..which is sad...this is where she could have gotten lots of great help for her new baby..if she even gets one now...which as everyone knows would be her greatest loss of all!!

I can't imagine my life without a yorkie or two in it!!!

At the risk of being run out........I see that it happens alot. I am very uncomfortable when I read posts (and there are some going now) that simple questions are answered in such a judgemental way.


DOn't get me wrong - this is a great site - great for resources, but sometimes people just want to ask some questions. Perhaps the "tough" posts should go to PM's. I see that would be a courtesy to all!

I don't know. I think that people were trying to give her good advice and they were well intentioned--- but she wasn't having it so it should have been left there, I guess. I posted a few things---but I basically held my tounge during the whole thread because I didn't agree with the op at all. :wavey: But YT still rocks! And everyone is very supportive and means well.

Thats terrible. I saw the beginning of that thread and could tell where it was going. I try to stay away from the drama. I come to this forum because I love to look at everyones babies and to hear all of the cute stories. And also to get advice and to learn more about how others do things. I wish that everyone can just get along. I realize we all have different opinions. And we should be able to voice them, but not by attacking anyone or their beliefs.

When you ask for opinions you get all kind's.

I'm sorry she left too, though I'm not sure I agree she was "run off". She came here to ask opinions about which puppy "looked cuter", and ended up getting an overload of information/opinions about the breeder. She is firmly set on this breeder, defends her, yet has not met her nor seen her facility, the pups, parents or anything. She is basing her purchase on a photo, and considering shipping a too-young puppy, and it's no wonder several YT members felt compelled to educate her. We all just need to do that in a very delicate manner with new comers.

Many of us have come here thru searching for information about Yorkies. In the process we find out much more than we knew before, and for many that info came after getting our puppy. So often we hear people say, if I'd known better I would have done it differently.

Yes it's sad she left, but she left with a lot of information that may help her make a wise decision, and could be a good thing in the long run.

I personally have been turned off as a new member by some of the self righteousness I've seen in this forum too. While I haven't encountered anything I've seen that would make me leave, there is way too much "my way or the highway" attitude here for comfort...

There are thousands of people on this forum with an equal number of opinions, none exactly like any of the others. Of course we're going to have disagreements over training methods, pet acquisition ethics, diet, news, and breed standards.

But I've seen more than one thread take a negative turn when someone presents a question or opinion and someone else gives a different opinion with the condescending subtext of, "You should do this this way because So-and-So says and this is the way I do it so obviously it's right and your opinion is wrong, wrong, wrong!!" And then a couple of people jump in on the side of the person attacking, turning it into a mugging.

A little more tolerance for differing perspectives is what I think this forum could use.

If somebody isn't going to answer an OP's original question without some patronizing soapbox commentary or a criticism of how they're acquiring/training/raising their dog, I think they ought to just let it go and not reply at all.

I felt the same at first, too but the longer I've been here I've learned there are very passionate people on here who really are trying to make a change. There is SO much information posted on here about puppy mills and bad breeding practices and when they are trying their best to educate new members and feel they are being ignored it's hard to take.

I didn't read all of that thread as it was hard for me to bite my tongue and I'm not as educated on the subject. I'm sure there were some biting remarks made but the points being made were that there were better options out there and it seemed to be ignored a bit.

I can see why it's upsetting on both sides, but I don't think anyone purposely was trying to run her off.

I posted on he thread that I would go with the second puppy as she really seemed so hesitant about the first. That's all she was looking for not an assault on her choice of breeder. I am sorry she left and under those circumstances.

I posted a couple of days ago about the chocolate yorkie. This was my first time on YT. I will not do any more posting. I can not believe how opinionated some are. I was just trying to give some views and my own personal opinions not to offend any. This has not been a good experience for me on YT. I do not need it. I was doing fine without YT Wayne

Let em try!!!!! I'm don't care nearly as much about how people view me...as apparently that other poster did!

I under stand it...i really do...every one of us here holds this breed in particularity..as well as all dogs in general to very high standards. As we should, that comes with the territory with being animals lovers and only wanted the best for our little furbabies...But as much as we know...and that maybe a whole lot...most of us dont know EVERYTHING...especially people like me (who dont even have their yorkie yet) and newbies...so yeah...someone might buy a puppy from someone the YT community knows isnt a good breeder....or they may not feed their babies the best dog food...but thats no excuse to flat out harass someone to the point where they have really had it enough to leave...when they think they made a right decision....Gently and respectfully make them aware....and then leave it alone....A least i know thats what i want from you guys....if I'm wrong or misinformed about something tell me...but dont keep bashing it in....but what do I know...im still a pup! :D

Hopefully our threads wont get so heated anymore that people leave....wishful thinking right?

Wayne don't let that experience run you off....true there are some judgemental and harsh people here......but there are far MORE tolerant, kind, concerned and tactful people in this forum!!!!

Yes Of course everyone is entitled to their opinion, beliefs, feelings and otherwise...but there is a point when people stop sharing and start enforcing their views on others! And it's always left with a judgemental comment.."I would NEVER do that..but do what YOU feel is best".... That's when it becomes uncomfortable for most of us that come along.

I don't think the thread would have gone so far if the OP would have just accepted the advice. People were only trying to help, but she wouldn't have it.

I *personally* (as a newbie) learned ALOT from that thread. She could have too.

I agree that sometimes we don't get the help that is requested, although the thread you are referring to was rather controversial. However, I too have asked for help and got opinions that were not helpful. Once I explained my situation, no one was willing to answer my question.:( We don't live in a perfect world, and everyone on here loves their babies, that's why they are here, Everyone here says that the site is for good advice, but then why can't we get it sometimes?

She was gracious towards those who were not rude to her. And I don't blame her for not taking their advice. They were basically accusing her of supporting a puppy mill for convenience's sake. If someone came up to you, told you you were fat, and then gave you the well-intentioned advice to lose weight, would you take it and thank them for pointing it out to your attention?

I did too. I learned if you voice an opinion here which is even the slightest bit controversial, you better be prepared to defend yourself from strangers more concerned with your animal's feelings than they are with yours...

Actually yes I would, and I have, my Mother In Law informed me that I was fat and lazy. See my weight loss blog Gettin' Shrunk Sometimes people can be brutually honest, but only with the best of intentions.

I chose to respond to the OP by telling her to pick the 2nd dog. It's obviously the one she preferred. I don't support buying puppies from puppy mills. At the same time, I would like to see those poor things go to good homes. It's not their fault they were brought into this world in such a way.

This is one of the reasons I don't post much anymore. I would never ask a question, either. I have seen to many ridiculed etc for the choices they have made. If I can't find an answer to my question on my own then I look elsewhere.

Hey, wait up here. I just want to say I love your chocolate Yorkies, and found it very interesting how you think they came to be. You obviously have much experience with Yorkies, and I sure hope you'll stay on here and share with us. If you do, you'll find so many friendly supportive folks, and you'll in turn have an opportunity to share your knowledge and experience too.

When I first joined YT, I only lurked to get a feel for who is who, and it took me quite a while to join in. First off I learned that I knew nothing about the right things to look for in acquiring a Yorkie, and I was too embarrassed to tell the story of how I got my puppy. Then after I got a Morkie, and there was a big discussion a few months ago where lots of members essentially said that these are mutts and there should be no mixing of breeds. Well, I was kinda hurt, and actually tried to boycott YT for a couple months, and didn't post. But, I did keep reading and learning, and came to see that there are lots of opinions around here, and you can take it or leave it.

Now for the finale (sorry this got so long): my 8 month old Yorkie apparently has liver disease and we are trying to find out what it is. I immediately posted on YT Health & Diet, and have gotten SO MUCH SUPPORT and EXCELLENT ADVICE, that I can never say thank you enough. My skin is a little thicker now, and I can overlook the adverse opinion threads, cause I am here to stay. As with any group there will be members you are more in tune with than others, but please don't leave without meeting lots more.
