Why does my dog eat cat poop? My puppy is 4 1/2 months old and she has recently discovered the cat box. Now every time she goes downstairs she goes there first to see if she has a "treat" waiting for her! Gross!! I don't think she's eating her poop or our other dog's poop, but if there is cat poop available--that's the bee's knees! Why? And how can I stop it? Moving the box elsewhere is not an option.

Its a bad habit . Esmee began that at my friend's house , I used tabasco on the poop , believe me with the reaction she had when she returned to the litterbox , she'll not be ready to eat some again .

That's a great idea! So you just drop some sauce directly onto the poop? Cause Isla wants to drag it to a different chewing location (aka. the carpet) so will the sauce get all over?

eating cat poop is very dangerous- the litter can block your pups intestines. But the tobasco sounds great- something tells me he won't make it to the carpet with the poop! but use it sparingly you don't want him to be in pain for too long- if he appears to be in pain from it for an extended period give him some milk or yogurt which will neutralize the hot sauce.

| Addison discovered our cat box and i have since re-located it in a location that is not easy for him to get to. It hold no interest to him now thank goodness. We have a covered cat box also, i know they have them with hinged swinging doors too, that may help a bit too.
