| spaying lots of people have lots of different opinions....I have my baby(who is currently almost 9 months old) scheduled to be spayed on Tuesday morning, even though she has not had her first cycle yet...my vet said it's best...other than the lower risk of mammary cancer later on, are there any other benefits/drawbacks to doing this? any info or thoughts appreciated, thanks |

| Hi there and welcome to YT. Would love to see pics of your little one. My vet said that in addition to lessening the chances of mammary cancer, you and your baby will not have to go through the "mess" of a heat-the bleeding and possibly the behaviour. As for drawbacks, I've been told that their growth plates are not fully developed and can lead to a lanky type of look. I do not really know as this will be my first female going through this. Good wishes and thoughts for your dogs spaying.

Donating YT 30K Club Member | All of mine have come into heat just before I could get them spayed and the heat cycle can be hard on them and 2 of mine had false pregnancy's after which was no fun for them. I think you are doing the right thing. I will keep her in my prayers for a safe spay.
