lucyaboo, thank you for your reply! :-) We live in Pahrump... is that considered "up into the mountains?" This is our first dog, so we are very much relying on our vet and people here on YT. LOL, one of the many reasons we moved here (just a few weeks ago) was that we heard there were no mosquitoes here - I hate them, they just love to eat on me. But the vet convinced us... he said that it's more rare, but some dogs do report cases of heartworm here each year even if they've never left the area. I suppose it's not too big of a deal hopefully though, because the meds only cost like $50 for a whole year's supply. Not a bad deal so far as I can tell, knowing what my mom pays for her dog's yearly supply in Ohio. Please, if there's anything else that might be helpful for us to know that's southern Nevada-specific, tell me! Shoot, just go ahead and pipe up about anything, even if it's not Nevada-specific. I want so badly to be a good mom to this new pup! He's not a purebred pup, but he's mostly Yorkie. Thank you again, Lauren |
Welcome to Yorkietalk & Nevada :) I think Pahrump is simular to Vegas as far as humidity levels & mosquitoes. It gets alittle colder in Pahrump though, and snows more. You are in a valley with mountains around you, just like Vegas. Pahrump elevations ranges 2550 to 2750 ft above sea level & Vegas elevations is around 2030 ft or so I know what you mean, I was in Florida for a short time in 1995 and I had to use Off spray before I could take the dogs out to potty - LOL. It was bad. The pups I had then (in FL) were on all the necessary medications to keep them safe. It won't hurt your pup being on heartworm meds, like your vet said. I have one yorkie & one mixed yorkie/doxie. What is your pup mixed with? |
