| Miles is Getting Neutered on Monday Hi everyone. I'm starting to get a little worried. Miles is getting neutered on Monday. I know it's a common procedure, so I shouldn't be scared, but I can't help it. He's my little guy, and I don't want anything to happen to him. I'm a bit concerned because I will have to work the next day. I'll make it home over lunch to check on him, but do you think it will be okay to leave him alone the day after? He'll be in his kennel. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks. |

| Well personally i wouldn't leave him the day after- i'd just call in sick. You need to make sure he is eating and drinking fine. From what i gather neuters are easier on dogs than spays so i'm sure the second day he'll be fine. YOu might want to buy an infant onesie to keep him from licking his incision. But again you need to be home with him so when he has to pee you can undo it- |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | If at all possible I would try and stay home the first day. with him. He will probably be just fine but I would rather someone be with him.

| I know how you are feeling! Our little girl was spayed about 2 weeks ago and I was So worried about her. We were unable to stay home with her the day after also. We put her in her crate with the cone on her head so that she couldn't lick (vet's orders). Only to find that she could get the cone off!! The pain medication that they gave her seemed to work well and she recovered in less than two days! Gracie seemed to be VERY needy emotionally the week after also, so make sure to give as much calm love as you can for awhile. Good luck with everything! |

| Thanks everyone. I wish there was a way I could stay home with him. I talked to my boss, and she's okay with me leaving periodically to go home and check on him. But I really don't want to take the day off or call in sick...the word "layoffs" came up in a meeting yesterday, and like a lot of other people in this country right now, I feel like I might be too close to losing my job to pull a stunt like that. So next question. If it is completely impossible for me to stay home with him the next day (I feel like a terrible mother)...would it be best to put him in his crate (it's a pretty decent size) or an xpen? |

| I would make sure that he is in the safest place possible. You want him to be comfortable but also not get too excited or try to jump up on anything until you know he is doing good. |

| Harley is scheduled to be neutered on November 25th. My vet keeps all dogs spary or neuter overnight. I am taking a half day on the 26th, that way I can go home with him once I pick him up and then will be off work for Thanksgiving and the day after. If you don't work on Thanksgiving could you possible reschedule him for the Wed. before? Just an idea. Jeri and Harley |

| Since you won't be home, get the E-collar (cone). Gus had one on when I picked him up from the vet, and had to wear it for several days. This will prevent him from licking the incision. The E-collar may necessitate using the x-pen, unless you have a large crate. He may have pain meds, and sleep a lot.
