| Put up flyers everywhere, if someone found them or if his ex gave them away maybe that person will see a flyer and do the right thing by calling. i know cats are a little different but I had a cat take off and went missing for about 6 months or so and one day he found his way back home. so you never know what can happen.

| I am so sorry for his loss. Very heartbreaking. I know this wont help you but may assist others. My friend went on vacation to Canada. (She was in a family's wedding) She left her dog with her friend to "doggiesit". Needless to say she jumped the fence. Her friend called her in Canada, also called all the local shelters with the description of the dog. A "turner & hootch" dog, with very distinctive markings. Her friend was told no dog matching that description was there. He left his number in case she turned up, or someone called that had found her. Flyers were put up everywhere. She did have a collar on with identifying information. When still in Canada she also called the local shelters and they said they did not have her dog and the dogs that were found were listed on their website, she should monitor their website, she did so in Canada. She also left her contact number. She purchased this dog as a puppy from a good breeder. For a reason no one was able to figure out, she could not keep much down, and gained weight slowly. She even took her dog to the local University for their opinion. She was on medications and was starting to gain weight, this was a year long treatment plan. For a while she wasnt even sure she was going to make it. She was beginning to make remarkable progress. A miracle baby to be sure. Upon coming home seven days later. She visited the shelters and again was told no dog matching that description was there. She left her contact information at each shelter along with her flyer. Two weeks later she received a phone call from a person that had visited one of the shelters and saw her dog there and described her perfectly. (she saw a flyer posted) She immediately went to the shelter and asked to speak with a supervisor. She was told that yes the dog was there, (they werent sure what breed she was they said) but was already adopted out! She insisted she be given her dog back but they refused. She then insisted she be given the new owners name as the dog had numerous health issues that must be dealt with and at this point she was frantic and that was all she cared about. They refused, privacy issues. So she did all she could do and wrote a long detailed letter with her phone number explaining all of the dogs health issues and where she was treated ect and asked the shelter to forward it to the new family. She begged the family to phone her, she promised not to take the dog back, just wanted to assure she was OK. To this day she has never heard back word on her precious baby she nursed for well over a year. She wonders if the letter was ever forwarded. She also placed an ad in the local paper for them to call her and why. She paid $2500 for her baby plus over 1500 in medical bills probably more. She was out her money but more importantly her baby. The shelter actually tried to tell her she nor her friend never called them to inquire about her lost dog, she was furious and brought in her phone records that showed five phone calls from her and two from her freinds phone records. At that point they said a mistake must have been made. Her question as to why her dog was never posted on the shelters website has never been answered. They also didnt answer the questions as to wether she had her collar on when found. I advise everyone to microchip as well as visit each shelter every few days if your dog is lost. Humans can and do make mistakes, this story was at the cost of both dog and owner. She has never gotten over this. Dont trust just internet postings by the shelters, nor phone calls, physically go see if your pet is there! Also, post flyers! They do and can work. There are also many free classified ads that can be placed for lost animals. I understand shelters provide a very valuable service. Very hardworking dedicated people. This is just one story of the system gone wrong. I am not bashing every shelter just letting others know what can happen and how they may go about preventing it in the future.

| Wow, what a story ![]() I would like to think that there are some decent people out there with a heart that would try to help someone else out. He is such a cute dog that I would hope someone has him, and maybe if we put flyers out we can find him back with Brian.
