Morkie Hello everyone! I'm new! I'm about to get a 4 month old Morkie. Does anyone know about when they stop groing and about on average how big they get? Thanks so much for your help! Any advice would be great! |

 Welcome to YT! |

Usually with small breeds, around 6-7 mos they pretty much quit growing...can't wait to see pictures of your baby |

Welcome! Glad to have you here! Not sure when those pups stop growing. I think by 10 months or so, but not for sure. I know at a certain age (8 wks?) you double or triple the weight and that should be their adult weight. Someone will know for sure. :D |

She said he is 4 months and 4-5 lbs. |

Size and look of parents is not an indicator as you know nothing about the grandparents etc. |

Buying at Walmart is not going to get you Liz Claiborne quality. Visit the website of any reputable show breeder who has been around a very long time and is well known you will see a certain type in their dogs and even the quality of the ones they sell for pets is awesome. I groomed a purebred registered Sheltie and a purebred registered Papillon in the last couple of days, both purchased for pet from excellent show breeders. The quality of both of these was lovely and so nice to work on for pet grooming. |

Welcome to YT, and congrats on your new furball :) |

What a cute morkie. I also have a morkie, she weights about 6.4 lbs. She is 10 months old. |

Lordy, we have 7 morkies in our family, the largest one is around 14 lbs, the other ones are all under 8 pounds. he is a doll baby. Someone asked about the breeder I bought my teapot from...:) she was normal size when she was little, but, kept growing..she probably should have been around 4 lbs. It's called throw back, remember, years ago, these dogs were bred to be around 14 or more pounds.. |

I have a yorkie and a morkie. they seem to be about the same when it comes to all that. he is about 7 months now and i think is finally done growing. he is about 7 pounds as is my yorkie, although they look different sizes because of their body build. maltese average 6-12 pounds i what i am told yorkie average 7 pounds so mine both ended up at 7 pounds. the mix seems a little tinier but he has shorter legs and is more "stalky" and my yorkie has longer legs and leaner.\ Hope this helps! |

2 Attachment(s) He is just adorable, and you are so lucky to be getting him. Did you see the mom and dad or know any history of previous litters? That would help, but not be a guaranty of size. Just as with Yorkies, they can have growth spurts at different ages, but many slow down around 6-8 months. I have a Morkie, Meika, who is 5 months old and weighs 6 lbs. Her mom is 6# and dad is 4# and pups from the 2 previous litters were said to be between 4-6#. Her color is more redish brown, which I see less often. I also have a Yorkie that is 7 months, and 7#, and like the previous poster said the Morkie is shorter and stalkier. There are lots of Morkies here on Yorkie Talk. They are wonderful furbabies, just as their originating Yorkies and Maltese. Ok, I'm going to show her off since this is a Morkie thread: |

FYI Actually this is their standard Weight under 7 pounds, with from 4 to 6 pounds preferred. Very much the size of yorkies. For them to be bigger is just out of their standard like bigger yorkies.:) Good luck with purchase. |

WELCOME TO YT!! congrats on your new furbaby he is adorable!! |

My rescue, Ella Bean, I believe is a 'Morkie' She was a rescue, so I don't have her exact lineage, but she is definitely half Yorkie and the other half seems like a Maltese. Mine is teeny - she was 1 lb. when I got her at 5 months and now she is a year and about 2.5 lbs. I will say, she is a great pet, with an awesome personality. She rarely ever barks, only during play, is loving, affectionate and brave. She knows she is small, but plays with my bigger dog without any fear. Plus, she was SUPER easy to potty train!! :p |

 1 Attachment(s) Welcome to YT!:D What a cute Morkie u r getting & I know u r so excited! My Bella is a Yorkie/Bichon. She was 2.5 lbs @4 months & is now 7 lbs. |

Your new baby is soo adorable! I also have a Morkie and he is 15 months and 5 pounds. His parents were in that range, so that was kind of what I expected. What did surprise me is how much their color changes as the grow. They start out very dark and usually lighten up considerably. Follow this link http://www.yorkietalk.com/forums/my-...rkie-beau.html to see a recent post from me showing how much Beau has changed since he was a puppy! Welcome to YT! :) |

4 Attachment(s) What a cutie!! My morkie is 6 months old now, but i'd guess around 4 months she weighed about 4 lbs. Morkies are amazing...you'll get the best of both breeds. As you already read you will notice that they do lighten up a lot with their color. Mine was a dark baby and is coming in silverish/white on her head and back. Here's some pictures of my Bella to give you an idea of what to expect.... oh and be sure to post some pictures when you get your baby!! Quote:

I would be more concerned about where the puppy was coming from, rather than how big it will get. It's extremely hard to find a good mixed breed "breeder," some would say it's impossible. Petshops, puppymillers and online brokers are not good options. That pretty much leaves you with BYBs, who usually get there dogs from the above mentioned sources. JMHO, not trying to start a fight. |

Bowie is 5 months and i think about 4lbs |

My "Morkie" was a rescue from a puppymill that had been raided in South Florida. When I got her, she was in county animal services because she was too sick too go to one of the rescues. She was scheduled for euthanasia because the resources needed for her care and her chances of living just weren't there. Her tail wasn't docked - it had been severed by a metal cage and was infected. She had a large gash along her outer right thigh. She was malnourished, hypoglycemic and had kennel cough. She was caked in urine and feces. All this and she was less then a pound at 3 months old. It is a miracle she is alive today and while I love her with my whole heart and wouldn't trade all of the hard work and money it has taken to get her healthy for ANYTHING, it is my sincerest wish that puppymills would be banished. In the meantime, the dogs who make it out alive, deserve warm, loving homes. It sure isn't there fault that they were stuck in such an awful situation. That said, please make sure you are buying from a reputable source. If this is an internet seller, its most likely a puppymill or backyard breeder, whose care for their animals may be as compromised as puppymills. There is something to be said for the health of a 'mutt' vs the genetic weakness in purebreds, but please make sure you aren't financing a veritable prison for dogs. There are so many mixed breed rescues - and purebreds who need homes... I wish you nothing but the best with your new baby and hope that you find a great puppy from a great breeder or rescue. |
