| Help..why is he doing this?? My little guy is a year and 5 months old and was neutered last January and he has started marking. He hasn't done this before and the only thing I can think of is he stayed with a friend of mine in August that has 2 male dogs and since then he has been marking things around the house. What can I do to stop this? I can't take him to anyones house without his "diaper" on because I am so worried that he is going to mark at their house. Someone please help...

| I had the same problem when my Jersey became sexually mature and was around females in heat. He has never stopped marking since then. He was completely housetrained, and then it just vanished. He wears a belly band now. Those are a little easier to keep up than a diaper. Wish I had a good solution for you.

| I dont understand, isn't spaying a way to solve this problem? I didn't get a male, couse I was told that they mark unless spayed, so now, I am confused.

| Unfortunately, neutering doesn't always stop them from marking. I know a woman whose ten year old Yorkie started marking when she fostered a dog that marked. They very often learn it from other male dogs which is what may have happened in your case. Sometimes they will start marking their territory when a strange dog visits and leaves their scent in your house. It's a very difficult habit to break once they've started marking. You probably should put a belly band on him when you visit or he will probably be tempted to mark his territory. |
