| Skiddish? Sadie seems to be so skiddish sometimes when we want to pick her up. She LOVES to sleep on my bed but cant get up there on her own. She comes to the side of the bed and puts her paws on it and cries. When I bend down to pick her up, she prances all around and wont let me pick her up. I dont get it! She wants up but doesnt want me to pick her up. So I stop trying and then she goes back to crying because she wants up. Its a confusing circle we go through every night until I eventually just put her out and close the door or I corner her and pick her up. Its crazy! Is this a Yorkie thing to prance all around and dodge you?? |

Donating YT 30K Club Member | Mine all do that too. I have trained a couple to turn around and let me pick them up, but when excited they are impossible to pick up.

| Whew - I am glad to know that it's normal! LOL She will come towards me but then when I try to pick her up she does the backing away thing, she kind of lays down sort of a little to one side and looks at me like she's scared to death! If I don't tell her to stay, she'll go around in circles. But then if I back away she'll come towards me again. Kind of strange, but then she's only been with me for 3 weeks so I'm hoping it will get better.

| Although I don't have to trap Daizy to catch her...if I reach for her she always backs up.... Not sure why they do this...but its common.. My sisters yorkie ducks.... I've taught Daizy to stay so maybe you need to work with your little one...does she know come? Stay? sit? any of those commands might help you to catch her easier..

| Oh Im so glad that Sadie isnt the only one doing this! She knows sit and no,but doesnt always listen. When I go to pick her up, she backs up and dodges all around. Its nuts. And she is so quick! LoL! I'll work with her some and see if I cant get her to obey me better. I think its a Yorkie thing to do though so there may be but so much training she'll take on this as I think alot of it is the breed, maybe. She is young still so that might be part of it too. She will be 7 months old in the middle of November. |

YT 500 Club Member | Wow! That makes me feel better. Sophie does that all the time. She loves to go for a ride in the car, but when we say "Okay, let's get your leash on and go", she stands back and barks at us. We have to go down the stairs and say "Good bye". Then she comes running. She rarely lets us pick her up when she wants something.

| Ted did this too. Eventually he started turning sideways so I could grab him. Now I got an old milk crate, put his blanket on top of it turned it upside down and it's two hops and he's up on the bed.....no expensive stairs. He loves it. |

| My girls both drive me nuts. Dezi used to back up every time we tried to pick her up. I somehow got her to turn around and give me her back so she stayed put. Cassie never backed up or ran around, she always sat right down to be picked up! I was so happy, until she realized I was going for her to groom her. Now she runs away and acts like I beat her. When I get stern enough for her to know to stop, she lays on her side with her legs up looking at me like I'm some kind of monster!!! I hate it. They both run to my husband like he's the savior. He never does anything for them or to them so they Looooooove him. I decided today that I'm neglecting them. Let them have goobies in their eyes and dingleberries on their butts. At least they'll love me.

| wow Riley does this too, I just thought it was because he came from abad situation...but now im thinking It may be a yorkie thing!...Ifeel so bad sometimes.like anytime he knows im going to "get him" pick him up, he usually runs under the bed,,,he did the ecact same thing at night when he wanted up on the bed,,,I got frustrated too and was like,,ugh fine stay down there then...but my bichon taught him to jump up on my night stand and then jump up on the bed,,,but he is sloooooowly coming around,,,He will let me pick him up sometimes now...but I noticed,,If I think even for a sec that he is going to run and hide, he will....so I try to keep an open mind, and if I do get to pick him up, I praise him like there is no tomorow.

| Shadow does this all night. He sleeps with me. I'll put him up there and he'll get down. He'll also chase the cat, who picks on him. Once he's down the cat will run around then jump on the bed and look down at him while he barks at him. After Shadow goes and does whatever it is that he neeed down for, he will come and bark for me to pick him up. Ive had to get up and chase him around sometimes to get him up there. If not, he will just sit there and bark at me. it makes for a long night. |

| My friend has a Yorkie Shi Tzu mix and she doesn't do any of this but she did when she was a baby. Now she's just a freak and she walks on her back legs and swats with her front paws in the air. My Yorkies don't do that.
