I sure hope that's not what she was thinking!!!!

I was told they aren't good to eat. However when he got to big to fit through the rabbit cage door and it was warm enough at night for him to start living outside......I put him in my husbands fenced in garden. Hubby was thinking bacon then! LOL

My comment....was....written....in....jest.

To the OP....tell hubby he followed you home. ;)

I have contemplated getting a new puppy, rolling it around in mud and taking it home telling my dh that I saw someone throw it out of their car window. He would be so full of sympathy for the little one that he would probably let me keep it. :D BUT - and that is a huge but - I can't be that dishonest. :( Besides when the little thing grew up looking like a yorkie he'd figure it out!

I HAVE always wanted a calico cat though! LOL

She didn't want Squirt, but she accepted him. She didn't want Gus, but she's thinks he's cute, and thus can tolerate his misbehavior. In order to get Gus, I let her get something I didn't want her to get in exchange for Gus.

Just like when he needed a new computer, even though I don't work, he asked if it was alright, and that's really the way it should be..Being sneaky really isn't the right thing to do. I have many times put my foot down as has he, and in the end, we realize it was the right thing to do. Be honest with your hubby, and then take his feelings in to consideration

Personally that just drives me crazy when I hear a wife say that their husband LETS them do something.

LOL, the only person I ever asked if I could do something was my Mother. I don't ask for anything, If I ever did something Rob had a problem with he just has to get over it, cause he knows I do what I want to. I learned that from MOM:D

Hmmm I guess he's OK with it, after all we have been together for almost 30 years:p

However if he didn't agree...wouldn't that translate to he didn't let you get it?

see I can only speak for myself and my husband. Like in any relationship there will be things that you and your spouse will not agree on. My relationship does not consist of my husband telling me no or vice versa. I want to get something I talk to him about and get his feedback not permission. If he disagrees then we talk about why he feels that way and I tell him why I feel I want it and we come to an agreement. His reasons might be valid and make me see the situation differently or they might be his concerns and I come up with ways that will ease his concerns and we agree. An example is a new dog. I have wanted a sister for max and he said he felt one dog is enough and we shouldnt get another. Does that mean that Im not going to get my little girl? no it doesnt mean that. I spoke to him and found out why he was against it and his reasons are valid and important to me so we came up with a way to get the little girl and calm his doubts. communication is everything in my marriage, we have no room for lies, deceit and disrespect.

My Husband just likes to be involved in decisions of major purchases and a dog is a major purchase. We purchase everything together from appliances to furniture. It has always been this way. I dont have to ask his permission but he wants to give imput.

 AMEN!!!
I dont get my husbands permission to do anything HOWEVER I RESPECT my husband dearly so I wouldnt even consider going behind his back and getting something especially a new pet that he didnt want in the first place, Im sorry but that is just plain disrespectful and why would anyone bring a new animal in the house knowing that it wont be loved by all??

He works, I don't. If I worked and had an income, then I could say more. But, he's supported me for 32 years, and I have always respected his decison on everything just as he has mine. If I went behind his back and did things, it would hurt him. I have always trusted him, as he has me, and going behind someones back is wrong, and can cause a lot of problems. I always say be honest and talk, and it makes a marriage much stronger. To the op, I would tell him you'd really love to give the puppy a shot, if it doesn't work then you will rehome him. See what he says then. I would sure hate to see you go behind his back and get it, it could cause problems in your relationship

Since you already have two I don't know how far I'd push your wife with another. My hubby never wanted a dog, his family didn't have good luck with them growing up. This little rescue Yorkie we got the end of June is the only dog we've had he's liked. Actually he loves her! But I always did all the pet maint. since he didn't want the others and he tollerated them because I loved them and he loves me. I don't know how far I'd get with multiples however he mentioned maybe getting a playmate for her the other day. But decided she may not like sharing the spot light since it's the first time in her life she's had it. Not to mention she's a dream to travel with, two would be a little difficult. Maybe I need to find another pig..........

MeAndMyOlivia 10-30-2008 11:45 AM

So...jlafred - did you get the puppy??? I am fascinated with the idea of getting a second yorkie and am considering all the aforementioned different approaches to take with my dh of 33 years, who says 1 dog is enough. Deceit is out of the question, more of a "honey you have your new Mustang and your nice big new garage; all I want is one more little bitty puppy dog" method might get me further. LOL Hmmm....really if I found just the right one I think I just might be able to pursuade him! :aimeeyork :aimeeyork

You need another pup to balance out the mustang! The two of you in front and the two cute pups in back!

That's how I got Izzy...I went to just "look" at her and then brought her home while hubby was golfing. He came home and this little furbutt runs up to him and that was it. He was in total love with her!

Just to clear things up about the pig.......
I was keeping him for a friend who sold him only to have him returned when the new owner was diagnosed with Lupus. The other pigs she had were mean to him and she had to find a place for him to go till a new owner was found. I loaded him and the kids in the truck and we put him in the dining room in a rabbit cage with a blanket over the top to keep him calm. My husband came home from work and whipped the blanket off saying what's this (thinking cat or dog)? Which was followed by holy s**t it's a pig!!! We had him a week or two when we got the call saying "you know you could just keep him" and we did. He had Thanksgiving and Christmas in our house before he could live outside safely. His name was Gideon, all the pigletts in that litter were named after characters in the series "Lonesome Dove". We lived on 2 1/2 acres in AZ at the time so I had alot of small pets then.
