when the detective gave us back our dog, they gave family 2 phone number to us as well. family 2 told the detective to give us their number, just in case we would ever want to give our baby away that they would take him in. We did call them and thank them for taking good care of our baby and that were very apologetic for the inconvinience/unhappiness it brought to the family. we found out that the person who took our bbay was a co-worker of family 2 and thats how they were linked together.

now my question is, will the police do something.. if we take the forgiving route? and if they dont then i really want to consider pressing charges.

That seems like a question for the detective. I see nothing wrong with asking her if it would be worth it to press charges. She may have told the suspect that you weren't going to press charges just to get your dog back or collect evidence. It's ultimately up to the D.A.'s office whether or not anything happens to this thief, but they often can't do anything if you don't file a complaint. What harm is there in asking the detective? They may not be able to prosecute this person, but maybe they could advise you about small claims court. It seems like you should be able to do something. Maybe the people they gave the dog to could sue them for the price of a new dog.

I would press charges..its just not right to take someone's dog and know who the dog belongs to and just give it to someone else. I really wonder how much family #2 knows. How would they not suspect where the dog come from? People don't just show up and give you a dog on a short notice. I don't know. It just doesn't sound right.

If the police feel you have a case then yes, I would press charges. What they did was wrong, they knew that he belonged to you but gave him to another family. The problem with society today is that so many people don't have to face the consequences of their actions. What's to stop them from doing this to someone else? But if the police feel it would be difficult to win you may want to consider if it's worth the frustration and heart ache you'll go through to try. What ever your decision I wish you luck. And I'm so happy you got your baby back!

I would press charges.

I any of my dogs were taken from me, I would be mad mad mad and I would've cried for WEEKS. The heartache alone will drive me to seek... something. But some might call me a spiteful person for this, so I don't know. I know that I will not sleep better if I don't do something about it.

Oh god, thats a horrible story. If anyone stole my baby and gave him away knowing that I am looking for him desperately, Id probably go to their house and break their legs... but since that is very illegal, then pressing charges would be the next best thing. Even if nothing happens, this person will have to go get a lawyer, spend time gathering evidence and making a case... that alone should teach this person a lesson.

I normally do not like confrontations, but in this instance I absolutely agree with the others that you should press charges. I see my furbaby as my child. If my child somehow got lost or ran out the house and some stranger picked up the child and gave it to someone else, that's almost like kidnapping... I really don't think this person should get away with what they did.
