| Christmas Vacation? Hi Everyone, I need help deciding on Christmas Vacation to my Sister's House in San Antonio, TX. We are planning to drive 23 hrs. each way (Me, my BF, my Mom and 3 Yorkie's) I have'nt seen her and her Family for 4 yrs. and it's the first time we are introducing our Yorkie's to each other (She has 2 a male Cookie & a female Ginger) My Sister definetly has a different outlook on Training than I do, she thinks it's easier to just keep them "Crated" she believes in avoidence. Mine on the other hand never leave my side, I believe that every experience is an opportunity to "Train" them. Either I take them or hire someone to stay Home w/them while I'm gone so they can be comfortable. I don't think I really want to be away from them? We are just doing this to make my Mother Happy but what about Me?

| Since you already know you and your sister have different ways of doing things I think it would be best if you talked to her now and find out what she expects of you/your dogs before you make the discission to take them. It is her home, and although you are family, you are also guests. If what she would want is for them to be crated nearly all the time, then I think that for their happiness you should make other arrangements for them. And, yes, sometimes we have to make sacrifices for our Mom's. As I'm sure they made sacrifices for us. As awful as it is to be away from our babies, the time that we have with our Mom's is limited. Don't miss this opportunity to make some memories with your family.

| Heart Broken for Christmas! I just need to Vent......I finally spoke w/my Sister, she informed me that her Husband only tolerates her 2 Yorkie's b/c they are Hers! He does NOT allow the Dogs any where in their House except the Kitchen, Hallway or Yard. At one timeOr they are Crated. She said she wishes that her Dogs would be able to have the Freedom to roam the House the way my Dogs are Trained in my House? But she has to convince her Husband that they are Clean enough to even be in their House, apparently he is Anal Retentive and also has a phobia about Germs! At first I was insulted but then I remembered that I really did NOT want to go there any way! I really did NOT want to spend the Money, Gas, Time & Effort to see and be with Family that does NOT really appreciate it? I was willing to do it all just to make my Mother Happy. I was going to spend the Money that I had set aside for Xmas, now I'm really going to Celebrate!

Sounds like a good plan. I probably would have done the same thing. What does your sister have to say of this?

| Brother in Law is NOT a Animal/Dog Lover My Mother & Sister do NOT want us to stay in a Hotel since we will be spending most of our time Driving we will only be able to stay a maximum of 3 days and the Hotels in that area only allow 1 Dog per Room not 3! The bottom line is my Brother in Law is NOT a Animal/Dog Lover at all and has never had a pleasant experience? My sister's female Yorkie Ginger, pee's on him every time she sees him for the past 2 yrs. now, explain that? Anyway my Mother got offended and decided she did not want to be around/in that kind of House/Environment. I guess she took it Personal? I did too, at first it hurt my feelings but then I wanted to go more just to show off how well behaved my 3 are and just to irritate him! (Typical of me) But then again why waste the time, money and energy? My Sister accepts his rules b/c that was the "Conditions" since he bought her the 2 Yorkie's!

| Perhaps your sister could visit YOU, instead? Then your dogs would be in YOUR house and your BIL could stay in a motel if dogs bother him? I've been very lucky, I guess: all of my "significant others" have loved animals. It's kind of a "condition of the relationship" ... I don't think I could ever trust someone who didn't care for critters. My pets mean too much to me to attempt sharing my life with someone who couldn't learn to love them, too. |

| Wishful Thinking The original plan was for my Sister & Family to visit us here for the Holidays, since her Husband races Dirt Bikes, they have a Truck to haul their RV., Dirt Bikes and a Golf Cart. They decided against it b/c of the high Gas prices$$! I forgot to mention that my BIL, who's name is Bill by the way, has more than one "Personal Problem" besides not being a "Dog Lover" he is Anal Retentive about being Clean he is totally weird, we have never been able to get along for the past 22 years. As a matter of fact "YORKIES" are the only subject that my Sister and I connect with, since I am NOT Married w/children only 3 Yorkies, a BF, and my Mother that moved-in 2 1/2 months ago! I am the reason my Sister has 2 Yorkies (1 male & 1 female) as well as my 3 Neice's, they all met my male Artie in person while I was vacationing/visiting in CA @ a Family Re-union. I was just trying to make my Mom Happy for xmas? I was willing to drive 23 hrs. and do some Sight seeing along the way and I thought it would be nice to visit & spend the Holiday w/Family?

| Ahhhhh! "Anal retentive" = "OCD" = "ADD" = PIA!!! VERY hard people to deal with. Your sister has my sympathies. Hmmmm ... how about a WebCam for Christmas morning? One at your place, one at theirs ... It's a great way to "share" while maintaining a great distance . And your babies will be happy - and you, too! Maybe even your mother ... |

| is your mom happy with your decision? I really would never choose to have a Christmas away from my pups, since they are the most important to me (after God).

| They're Just Dogs? My Mother accepts my decision b/c she knows how I feel about all 3 of my Dogs, I'm sick of everyone around me saying "They're just Dogs" why can't you do this or that etc. They don't understand the commitment and all the responsibilities that come along w/them, they are not part time they are a 24 hour/7 days a week w/NO Holidays. My Mother is also offended b/c she knows that my 3 Yorkie's behave very well and my BIL is'nt even giving them a chance to prove themselvesMy Sister has alot of behaviour problems w/her 2 Yorkie's b/c she is'nt really bonded w/them she has a very "Sterile" relationship except for short walks & grooming most of the time they are crated or segregated in her Kitchen or Yard. I on the other hand live & breathe Yorkie, they sleep w/me, ride every where w/me and I take them to many different places and they meet alot of different People and Dogs. I try to let them experience as much as possible. By the way Thanks for helping get thru this it's really bothering me and its nice to be able to vent.

| Crazy Brother in Law? Over the Holidays my Uncle passed away, so my Mother went to CA. for the Funeral on her way back to South Carolina she stopped @ my Sister's House to visit her Family for a Week. She came back with horrible Stories on how my Sister's 2 Yorkie's were Treated. All the comments and rude remarks like "I hate those Dogs" and my Sister would reply "Too Bad"! They were constantly kept gated in the Kitchen? I kept asking my Mother alot of questions b/c I was curious but afterwards it broke my Heart to know that they live like that. To each his own, I'm just relieved that I did NOT waste my time & money. I've always wanted my 3 Yorkies to meet her 2 Yorkies, just b/c our Yorkies are the only thing we have in common and it's the only subject we discuss on the phone, since I have more experience she always asks me for advice. I don't blame my Sister but I do think my Brother in Law is CRAZY!
