| Minnie prevented house fire today!!! I'm still a bit shaken but I have to share this with all of you... This morning it was quite chilly and I decided to build the first fire of the season in our wood stove in the kitchen. It started very well and I put some more logs on and went upstairs in our computer room to read my emails and catch up on YT. Of course all 4 furbutts came with me. Then I heard a strange whimpering and first I thought it would be Mikki who's a whiner but it was different so I looked who was whimpering. It was Minnie and she was obviously scared of something and was running to the door and back, still whimpering. I got up and went into the hallway where I smelled smoke. Strange, I thought, the fire started so nicely there should be no smole in the house. So I went to the kitchen and discoverd that I had forgotten to take the wicker basket with apples I had there all summer off the stove. Of course the wicker started to burn and smoked... Our Minnie is now declared the official smoke detector and got lots and lots of kisses, 'good girls' and treats!!! |

| Thank you all so much for your compliments and kisses to Minnie! They were truefully forwarded! Of course we do have a real smoke alarm but it's in the other room and the door was closed (very smart, I know, but sometimes the stove smokes a bit when we start the fire and then it's really annoying...) It also was not a real threat b/c the stove sits on a fire proof base that surrounds it and if the basket would have gone up in flames it would have fallen on this. But... you never know and I'm sure glad Minnie alerted me... |
