Pics of 6-7 pound yorkies Sasha just got back from the vet and she is 6.5 lbs at 8 months (next Tuesday to be exact)! I was shocked because she was 5.6 at her last visit about a month or so ago and her vet said she would probably only gain about a pound more and fill out a bit. But I thought that 1 pound would come much later. She's literally gained a pound a month since I've gotten her! She gets lot of exercise and her vet still thinks she's a healthy weight. But she doesn't look almost 7 pounds to me. She can still fit nicely on my lap and I'm a small woman myself (5'3", 118 lbs.). She is a little long IMO but she can contort herself into such a small little ball. I'd like to see other pics 6-7 pound yorkies if you have them to do a little comparison. Here's a full body pic of her that was taken last month although she still looks to be the same size to me today. Is this what a "normal" 6-7 pound yorkie looks like? lol

I wish i could send you a picture but all i have is some information that might be helpful. She might just have more dense muscle, which would explain weighing more than she looks. everyone's muscle is different which is why some people look about 100 lbs and really weigh 130. so maybe that is why she weighs more than she looks

I knew that about people but never really thought to apply it to dogs. You could be right. Thanks!

ha no problem I just got back from the vet and was talking to him about the same thing. He said things like bones and muscle mass will really confuse people when it comes to small dogs. (my little guy is really short and has a little wider rib cage so my vet said he might weigh more than he appears to be when he becomes full grown) and then i got home and read your post ha

Awww Layla is adorable. She just looks fluffy Her torso seems shorter than Sasha's but her head is bigger, so I guess, as sumosmommy implied, they just carry their weight differently as do people. Thanks for sharing your pic!

Interesting, Sasha has a wide rib cage too so I guess she's got the same thing going on.

she looks just fine to me , our yorkie sophie is 11 months old and weighs nearly 4 kilos, but we call her skinny kinny, cos she is long and thin despite the weight, I know her t shirt is 35 cms which fits perfectly, its a great weight, small enough but sturdy too, hour walks arn t enough she has the stamina of an ox !!!

Well Kayla hit the 8lb. mark her last visit. She looks about the size of yours. She certainly doesn't look 8lbs. She is just a little chuncky monkey I guess. She loves to eat. But, even though the smaller ones are darling I am more comfortable with her being the size she is because I am so afraid of them getting hurt. BYW she is a cutie.

If you get a chance to go to a show or look at pics of Yorkies that are being shown they are all usually in the 6-6.5 range. Some dogs are a bit more dense than others--even if they are the same height. I wouldnt worry about her weight as long as your vet says shes healthy. She is definitely a cute little girl!
