| Pregnancy vitamins ? So it looks like our lil girl is preggers. My wife has heard there's some vitamins/ supplements to give dogs during gestation. Any info ? Any other suggestions would be helpful too. We're newbies at Yorkies having puppys but want to do everything the right way. Thanks edit: found this, still researching Are Vitamin And Mineral Supplements Necessary For Your Pregnant Dog? Last edited by willywhit; 10-08-2008 at 09:01 AM. |

YT Graphic Artist Donating Member | Welcome to YT! You need to supliment with calcium. I also suggest you have her levels checked both before & after whelping, as low calcium can lead to eclampsia, and even death. I almost lost my Gellica due to this, and I was supplimenting her. Give her puppy food (more nutrients), and suppliment with cottage cheese, yogurt, vanilla ice cream, etc.

| Welcome to Yorkie Talk! It's a great place I took my pregnant girl to the vet yesterday and I asked about vitamins, I was told to feed her puppy food and that was all she needed, I asked about cottage cheese, they said that is fine as long as it doesn't make her sick, it doesn't, she loves it!!! Good luck! Paula Halle Brutis |

| If you post your question in the breeder's section, they may be able to help. I am not a breeder but what I have heard is that you do NOT want to give calcium supplements during gestation because the mom's body then things it can stop producing its own.
