Rawhide. good or bad?

I never gave Sam rawhide. I have a friend that worked for a vet and she said lots of dogs came in with stomach problems with rawhide.

As with anything you give them you have to watch them...Rawhide is NOT good to give to ANY dog. They do not digest them and they can get lodged in their intestines. My Parents had a small dog that they USED to give rawhide chews to. One night she had been chewing on one and all of a sudden she ran over to my Dad....she was chocking on it...THANK GOD they were home! My Dad stuck his finger down her throat and got it out...They were very lucky...he could have pushed it down further. I had given Sadie (yorkie) a bullie stick. I had bought the kind that look like a long pig tail...She was on my bed waiting for me to get into bed. She was making a coughing sound I looked and she was chocking!!! THANK GOD she brought it up herself,,we live over an hour away from the nearest ER vet and we never would have made it there in time. So.....with all that said....he don't have ANY chewies in our house.

I give him the 12 inch one and he has been chewing on it for a few weeks. I take it away around meal time so he will eat, but he will chew on it and go to something else. I agree - besides the rawhide gets gooey and can make them gag or choke. Make sure you get the ones that don't stink.
