| The Donkey Kick I read a thread recently where someone described their Yorkie rearing like a horse and I had no idea what they were talking about. All of the sudden Cocoa, 6 months, has started this donkey kick thing in the house. It seems to be when she wants to play but is also done at random times finished by a few digging strokes. What is this all about? Is this some instict of the breed? These Yorkies are so cute and entertaining! |

| I've heard that this a dog's way of spreading their scent... like when my bigger dog goes to the bathroom he always bucks and kicks up grass to spread his scent.. not sure if that's what you meant

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | The Donkey Kick, I love that term, it suits them great, because they are stubborn little cusses. Joey does this many times during the day, but especially when he sees another dog in the park, he runs to the door, slams the bell for me to open the door, and then does a couple of donkey kicks before he races outside to bark at the other dogs. It's so cute.

Yorkie Lover Donating Member | My Magic does this and has since she was little. She does it to ask you to play, when she wants your attention or when she returns from pottying outside like some type of announcement. Funny thing is Sailor has never done this.....so we have always wondered where the behavior comes from.
