Him and Triss get along great. I grew up with my grandma's maltese, and they are so sweet. The only thing I didnt like was the eye cleaning. If you didn't the area would be all reddish looking.

| I'm sure someone that has both breeds could be of more help, but I'll give my opinion. As far as size goes, if well bred, they should be about the same size. From what I've gathered here, Yorkies have a bit more of a terrier attitude. They're more spunky and can be more stubborn or mischievious. Keeping a Maltese sparkly white can be a chore, especially if the dog has a bad coat to begin with. Maltese also seem a little more prone to allergies and skin problems. One thing I really like about the Maltese breed is everyone's openess about top breeders. People have no problem telling you they have a Chrisman, Marcris, Rhapsody, etc. Maltese. It makes it so much easier to find a great breeder. Maltese don't seem to have as many orthepedic problems, but they do have the same liver issues as yorkies. Maltese do have fewer cases of luxating patellas, too. The OFA ranks Yorkies #4 where as Maltese are only 42nd in number of reported cases. Yorkies have far more liver shunts than Maltese. Yorkies are 36 times more likely to have a liver shunt than all other breeds combined. Irresponsible breeding because of the popularity of Yorkies is probably the #1 reason Yorkies are plagued with health problems today. Dr. Karen Tobias of the University of Tennessee found that the number of liver shunts in Yorkies has increased 11 times in the past 20 years. | |

| I had a Maltese. She never smelled and I never had a lot of trouble with her eyes staining. Her personality was different then Peppers. She just seemed more independent. She only barked when left alone or if you went outside without her. Never wanted to be held. Pepper on the other hand loves to be held. I miss my little Duster. She has been gone almost 2 years now. RIP sweet Duster

| My Lucy is also very independant.. She doesn't like to be held at all, but loves to squeeze in right beside me in my recliner.. She likes to be in whatever room I am in and wants to be outside when I am.. Shes 3 now and recently she has let me get close to her face and kiss her face and head.. She always would squirm out of my reach and move to another chair... Her coat is Beautiful and pure white and I have little trouble keeping it that way.. She does get tear stains so I wash her face every other day to avoid issues.. Shes a sweetie.. My Cooper Pooper ( Yorkie) is a sweet little guy that loves to play kissie face with me...He loves to cuddle and be held.. Although he follows with Lucy as I go room to room, he cant be trusted to walk freely like my Lucy can. hes been known to run and hes very hard to catch.... |

| She was 11 years old. I got her when she was a year old. She only weighed about 3 lbs.

He is now never allowed outside unless on his leash. He has run to the hiway twice with me running behind him screaming like a lunatic. Never again.
