Running from Ike! Please keep all those that are evacuating the Texas coast in your prayers! We need all the help we can get. There is so much to do even with warning! So many people are choosing to stay behind! I don't know their situations and what on earth could possibly be keeping them here, but I feel for them if they take a direct hit. Also a lot of pets are already getting left behind, please keep all of us in your thoughts! There are lots rescues here FULL of dogs and cats that have no way to evacuate. It is a real mess. I wish Ike would just hit a deserted island somewhere! |
I wish it would hit a desserted island too :( I wish everyone all the best. Stay Safe! :hands: |
Oh, I hate to hear that! I was already praying for the people...but I didn't think of the pets that might be left behind. :( I will most definitely be thinking of all you. Be safe. |
Bless ALL of your hearts, people and pets alike! My thoughts are with you! |
Evacuating Hi...It really breaks my heart that people leave their pets behind!! I have evacuated many of times and have taken all of my animals. Do they realize when they drop of their pets at a boarding clinic or vet boarding that nobody stays with them. When they drop of their pets they do not realize that the power goes out and these pets are alone in the hot air. Some places get flooded and their pets die and then they want to come back and complain. they are told that the clinic is not open while all this is happening. You should always bring your pets. Hotels allow pets. |
That must be terrible. We will be thinking of you. :hands::hands::hands: |
OMG they're DOING PET FRIENDLY Evacs - why are so many leaving their pets behind ? I feel so bad for you all who have to leave - I heard Freeport is mandatory TODAY to evacuate and that's only 1 hour from me here - but - I don't understand why they're jumping the gun so fast.. the poor pets. That really sucks GOOD LUCK TO ALL ! I hope everything is as it's been lately - a big storm with no punch on the gulf coast. Ike has been just horrible to the other countries he ripped thru.............:( |
V, I wish I could tell you why people are still leaving their pets! It angers me so much! I just had some severe words with a man who works in the office across from me! He is single has a 4 wheel drive HUGE company truck with a company gas credit card and is leaving his 1 year old ridgeback outside in his backyard in an area that is GUARANTEED to flood! Needless to say I don't think we are friends anymore and I will be stopping by to get his dog when he leaves. We are very blessed to have friends and family all over Texas so we will be safe. Others are either being stubborn, or are not so lucky. The drive out of here will be slow but at least we will be out. Now Ike just needs to stay away from the areas that people are fleeing to! |
All you Texans please be careful! We here in LA just went through the same thing with Gustav, and it's no fun! Be safe and bless you and all your babies! |
Praying for all of you. |
I've already been thinking about everyone down there. I don't know how anyone could leave their pets behind - no matter how big or how small. I could never, ever do that.:( |
All the people and animals in the path are in my thoughts and prayers. People who leave their "pets" behind annoy me to no end. |
Praying that everyone stays Safe & that this storm weakens! |

It makes me sick thinking of it and you go girl with that jerk - how can someone DO that - imagine how scared he'll be out there all alone ? |
Evacuating I am so glad you did that post on your Houston Newspaper. If anyone needs a place to stay you are welcome in our home. I know what it is like!! If they leave their pets they should not be allowed to have one. |
Prayers and hugs to all those along the coast. I am on the border of TX and Ok and we are supposed to get lots or rain and 45 mph winds. |
Prayers for all in the path of Ike. |
Ike We are staying home during this hurricane. One reason is because we have 5-dogs and no one will board us. My parents are leaving to San Antonio in the morning. Its kinda funny we stocked up on dog food and now they have more food than us.(ha). I will write when its all over. Love Cheryl/Jack/Bella/filled out application on a biewer.:animal-pa |
I'm,praying for you all in South Texas. I know what you are going thru. We were hit by three hurricanes here in Stuart in 2004 & 2005. Only the one time did we evacuate and we left our 2 dogs at the time at the animal hospital with our vet and a staff member there with them. Our vet said he would not do that again. It was too hard on him and the animals. The other 2 storms we stayed in our house and did not evacuate. We lost two large trees next to the house and a 10-12' section of roof totally gone. Very scary. It is soo hard after the storm too - no power and the traffic lights out and all. I feel for you all. I have three neices that live in Texas. The only one I am concerned about with this storm is the one that lives in Austin. Even tho they may not take a direct hit they will still get much of the storm and perhaps some flooding. You are in my prayers - be safe. |
run girl run :eek:especially galveston.... get out now...please be safe all in texas:animal-pa:eek: |
Prayers for all of you send your way:hands: |
We are praying for all of you... as a community still reeling from Gustav, best wishes and be safe! d |
I have been watching the news on this hurricane like a crazy woman.. My heart got out to each and every person having to leave their home.. BUT I cannot believe that people have time to take their pets and do not..:eek: omg they do not deserve to even be loved by any animal what so ever.. sorry this sounds cruel.. but I could not even imagine..I never leave my guys.. or have not with all the ones I have now.. and then I went away once.. and missed them so much it took the enjoyment away with my wanting to be with them.. anne |
We are evacuating and taking 12 dogs!!:eek: (seven puppies). There is no way I would leave them behind. I am probably taking more stuff for the dogs than for me! Ike is set to hit directly about twenty to thirty miles from our house, so even though it is not mandatory here yet (we are right on the cut off line for mandatory) we will be leaving tomorrow. Most of the gas stations are already out of gas and the grocery stores out of a lot of foods. |
Be careful careful All of you fellow Texans be careful on your way.... We haven't quite decided when and if we are going.... I'm just off the coast in Beaumont and we are a bit worried as the track is beginning to inch toward Galveston... That would put us on the "dirty" side and generally a bad place to be.... We were hammered by Rita a few years ago, not so much fun! I'll spend tomorrow packing up the kennel and kids and we'll be off on Friday if needed.... :thumbdownYea! we just unpacked from Gustav!! BTW, I think one poster mentioned folks not taking pets since they have access to evac on public trans... Remember, our 211 system is not for everyone here, you have to "qualify." A lot of folks are on their own without any assistance and have to find a pet friendly hotel or shelter.... that is not an easy task or can be a very very costly one. During Gustav hotels were charging 100.00 per night non refundable deposit for pets and most shelters were not taking pets..... We are fortunate as we have family all over the state and they know to expect 3 kids, and 10 Yorkies (plus 5 puppies born Wednesday) and 1 cat.... |
My heart goes out to all in Texas! I went through that last week with Gustav and it was hell. Thank God we are all ok and no way would I leave my pets behind even if it meant sleeping in my car they would be with me. Good luck to you and keep safe, my prayers are with you and your state. Has anyone heard from Judy?I'm not familiar with the area, I wonder if they have to evacuate as well. Prayers going to all of you Texans |
Prayers for everyone in Ike's path. I'm sure it can be hard to find shelter if you have pets, but I still couldn't leave mine behind. In the last few years since hurricane Charley tore through here in 04, we finally have shelters that allow pets. Please be safe and try to keep us posted. |

Nobody knows what evacuation is like until they have been through it. We flew from Disney in to Houston just in time to get caught in the evac from Rita. It took us 2 DAYS to make the 3 hour trip from Houston to Carthage!! I feel so sorry for you guys  Don't wait too long to leave! Betsi |
just watching and waiting.... We had mandatory Evac called this morning, so I may be on the road after all.... It is always a guessing game to an extent.... |
