Default Is Myrtle Beach Dog Friendly?

We were planning a Destin trip because the beaches there allow you dogs, but Ike has a different plan for us Now we're thinking about trying Myrtle Beach. Anyone know if their beaches are pet friendly? If so, any suggestions on a good place to stay?

Don't know about Myrtle Beach, but how about Charleston???

Isle of Palms beach is pet-friendly and Folly is after certain hours (night mostly)...let me know if you need more info about the area...it's really beautiful!!

ETA: If you do decide to come to Charleston, we should meet (if you have time, of course )

My friend is there right now with her dog - they're in a hotel but there are other doggie friends they've met so I think it is

Since Labor Day has passed, the beaches are again dog friendly at all times From Memorial Day through Labor Day, dogs are allowed on the beach only before 8:00am and after 5:00pm. I don't know how dog friendly the hotels are, as we stayed with my son. But there is a really cool doggie boutique on the Kings Coast Highway right in the middle of town!!!

Did you go to Myrtle Beach recently? Are there any rules that we should be aware of (restrictions of dogs in certain areas, etc.). There are some dog friendly condos I found. The only concern we have is we want the dogs outside with us all day. They love the beach, sun, swimming, attention, etc

Edited: This link says there are some restrictions but I wonder if they're just not strick about it.

Many people walk their dogs on the beaches during the times allowed. There are poles with doggie bags at the entrances to the beaches from the public parking spots - at least there are in N. Myrtle Beach. We took both pups out on the beach in Briarcliff in May last year.

Did you find this on a website? If so, could you please send it to me so I can sent it to my family?

Thanks everyone for the responses. Hopefully we'll find a place we can go. Seems like we're going a few days too soon since the rules allow dogs starting Sept. 15

Do you know if all these beaches nice and clean? The reason we were trying Myrtle Beach is because we heard good things. LuvMyPrinceKobi said Isle of Palms is nice. Are there any others that allow dogs year round nice? We want options in case all condos are booked in Isle of Palms

The beaches are probably cleaner in Edisto or Isle of Palms - MB is very touristy. North Mrytle is cleaner than Myrtle. But since the season is pretty much reduced now that school has started, it won't be as bad.

Here's the website for the list. There's alot of info on it:

Dog Beaches

I forgot to mention, the cleanest beaches are in the residental areas. Away from the hotels. If you want to have some fun, go to the end of Cherry Grove(N. Myrtle). Go down to the beach and walk around the tip to the backside where the inlet is(only a few hundred feet). You have to do this during low tide. You can see bunches of hermit crabs changing shells in the tidal pools. You just have to be careful if the tide is coming in - you can get trapped and it can get scarey. If you want to hunt for sharks teeth, go behind the Gay Dolphin in Myrtle. Or just walk the beach and look for areas with lots of crushed shells. Once you find your first one, they are easy to spot. Bird Island is known for finding really great shells. There's tons of things to do there. Contact the Chamber of Commerce for some info. They'll send you books.

Thank you so much for the information. If any of you have any more information then please pass on. I think it's always best to ask people who either live there or have visited there rather than find information online We'll look North Myrtle beach if that's where we decide to go. We might try Isle of Palms since several of you mentioned the beach. I'll let you guys know which we decide on.

DogFriendly.com's Travel Guide: Myrtle Beach City Beaches

We went last summer during the 4th of July week. We shopped at Broadway on the Beach and also the outdoor shopping center the other direction (can't remember what its called). Most places at both do not allow dogs, however the girls were in their stroller and no one balked at all. Stores that normally did not allow dogs had no problem with them in the stroller. I would highly recommend using one if you have it!!! I have found that in the stroller, since their feet are not on the ground, and especially if all zipped up, most places will allow them. Restaurants will not allow dogs inside anywhere, but if they outdoor seating they may - so always ask.

I can't speak for the strictness of the beaches, but I did notice there were always patrols out and lifeguards were on duty at the time. However, since the tourist season is over, I'm assuming you'll be okay in areas where dogs are allowed.

Pawley's Island has a wonderful peninsular beach with the ocean on one side and a canal on the other. It is dog friendly yearround at all times of day with pups on leashes.

There is also a dog park not far outside of the State Park. ArtieMerlino lives near there and we met up with her and her crew while we were there!!!! My son was renting a house, so we felt fine leaving the girls there if we couldn't take them with us. Just keep an eye out for the fire ants as they are everywhere!!!

Forgot about the dog park. It's in South Myrtle on the old Air Force Base. Pawley's is a beautiful area. If you go that far down, there's Brookfield Gardens. An awesome place, but I have never seen dogs there. But, I would ask about the stroller. That's a great suggestion. I think it's about time for the porpoises to be migrating. You can see them jumping from the beach. Barefoot Landing is the other shopping place like Brodway at the Beach. Alabama Theater, House of Blues, and Alligator Adventure are there. It's in N. Myrtle Beach right on 17(the main road that runs parallel to the beach). AND please listen to Jodie and stay away from the fire ants. Their bites can be horrible to a little pup if he/she steps into them. You'll find them all over the south.
