What made you decide on getting a Yorkie Just curious :animal-pa |
I showed my mentor's yorkies for 4 years before having my first one . |
My girlfriend had one for many years and after loosing my 16yrs old terrier mix I said after two years of being alone I want a Yorkie. Something small that I can take with me and carry out to potty and not have to walk all the time. Out I went, Buddy I found and here we are. He can not be taken everywhere and he has to be walked 4x daily. LOL But he is a love all 16lbs of him:eek: |
Maltese has always been my all time favorite...i am sorry to say that i used to think Yorkie were little yappy mean dogs like a lot of non-yorkie owner still thinks...but i have always love the way their ears perked up...so i finally gave in and got Tootsie...she does bark a lot but and strangers probably would find her mean...but she has not mean bone in her body at least from what i can tell...hehe...i was so uneducated about the breed itself when i got her but i knew what they look like and i had to make sure i got her ears to stand...hehe...now 3 years after getting her I now have 4 yorkie...the other 3 has not start barking at strangers they try to greet them all...big or small...2 legged or 4...hehe... |
My neighbor was a breeder....the first litter I saw were all spoken for...but that litter had me researching yorkies. Learned you can't housetrain them...and thought...okay we'll definitely sign up for that. My first died very young...but owning Trace made me realize...I adore these dogs. So now I'm up to two yorkies and one biewer. |

I have to ask if you are visiting your neighbor's yorkie litter?? ;) |
My sister in law had always wanted one and I must admit I didn't even know about the breed so I research it online. Then one day when hubby and I went out jogging past a dog park I saw one. It was the cutest, friendliest, most adorable one in the park. So I was just staring at it adoring it. It was playing with the other dogs and always went to jump up and sit beside its momma and give her a kiss before jumping down to play again. OMG my heart just melted and kept tugging the hubby that I wanted one like that. He said no, but eventually I got Wookie and now I have 3. :D |
We didn't really pick Yorkies, they kind of picked us. Lol. Anyway, my daughter was deployed to Afghanistan in 2002, and we kept her Yorkie, while she was away. We loved her so much that we choose to adopt our own. :D |
I've always wanted one since I was a little girl. My parents would not pay out that kind of money on a pet, so I never got one. I loved how cute, little and adorable they were. I wanted one to take with me everywhere. Soooo Now I have one and couldnt be Happier |
I was looking for a small breed that is good for people with allergies. My boyfriend wasn't big on getting a small dog, but since his uncle add a yorkie ( or silky not sure) when he was young he point out that breed so I start researching on them. After visiting a few breeder..I toke home my first yorkie; Lady Lucy lu. I now have 5 Yorkshire . :D Love the breed :yorkiesar :aimeeyork:aimeeyork:aimeeyork:aimeeyork:aimeeyork |
Quite honestly because they are good dogs for people with allergies. I've had asthma since I was around 5 years old. Poodles were the only non-allergenic dogs you ever heard about when I was growing up. Since I live in an apartment, I was thinking toy/teacup poodle. My allergies are a lot better than when I was younger so when an opportunity presented itself where I could get a yorkie, I did some research. It was meant to be. :animal-pa |

I saw someone walking one one day when we went to Our downtown Canal and took a walk. I asked the owners alot of questions about him. I couldnt get one however we had cats and My Husband didnt want anymore pets. A few years later after a couple of the cats died I asked My Husband about getting a dog. He said to research different breeds. I did a little bit but mostly researched about yorkies. A Month later I found a breeder in our local trader paper and I called her. Then My Husband and I went out and saw her. We picked out Chachi. (my first dog) A month later we went back and got Jewels |
My sister in law had two. Mother & daughter. The mother dog was a sweetie, the daughter dog was vicious to everyone even her owner. )Obviously alpha dog in ther house.) I loved them though and got my Arnold (he wasn't a very friendly dog with outsiders and other dogs though), after Arnold's death we got Katie and for a playmate to Katie Suzi. Katie & suzi love all dogs and everyone. Hugs Shirl x x |
i went through a nasty divorce, than another nasty breakup with a live in boyfriend and wanted something to take care of and love. and my brother also had one soo i made up my mind an got one and its the best thing ive ever done for myself... shes my soul mate |
Well, I was a teenager my dad got a full blooded yorkie from a local shelter. I will never forget him.....his name was Skittles. I have never forgotten how cute and adoreable he was and now at the age of 32 my fiance remembered me saying that and bought me one of my own for my birthday.....thus the name Bailey Louise :). She is cute and precious in every single way and all I could have ever dreamed of. I am new to the forum and read the forums every day; however this is my first post. Thanks for having my Bailey and me here :) |
One of my friends has a yorkie and he's such a little cutie, so of course after meeting him I decided I wanted a yorkie. I started to do research and planned on when I got my own house I would get one. Funny thing, last week my friend sent me a picture of her yorkie, the one that made me fall in love with them, and he looks exactly like an older version of Rocky, same facial expressions and everything! |
My grandma has emphasima and is allergic to dog hair badly and I have some allergy to it as well and I live with my grandparents and really wanted a dog friend someone to love me no matter what and someone for me to love no matter what (Callie is so not a dog shes a little human lol) and I did research and it said that yorkies have human like hair not fur so I finaly talked my grandparents into it and got my Callie :) |
Growing up we always had dogs (not yorkies) so I new that one day I would want a dog of my own. I'd always liked the 'look' of yorkies but knew little about them and also used to work long hours away from home. I started researching the breed properly once I was working from home and having a dog was a practical idea. The more* I read the more I fell in love with them! I wanted a companion, full of personality who I could pamper and spoil......yorkies ticked all the boxes!! I've only had Twinkle for a little over a week but she's already become our 'third child' and is such a character! I've rambled a bit but basically: it's the looks that attracted me but the personality that made me fall in love:Dxxx |
Growing up I never really had any "real" pets because my mother doesn't care for animals. I like cats but my husband and dad are super allergic and I like dogs but I never wanted a stinky, slobbery big dog. As a teenager my friend had a Yorkie named Toby who I loved. He was little and cute (and super old but that's beside the point) so when I decided I absolutely wanted a pet, a Yorkie it was. I love that Yorkies stay the size of a puppy and that they are absolutely adorable. I love Tucker with my whole being and having him has given me a greater appreciation for all dogs...even the stinky, slobbery big ones! ;) |
I was forced My husband and my daughter forced getting a yorkie upon me. after having our dachsund Frank E Footer for 14 years, I seriously did not want to raise another dog. It had been 5 years since frank passed and my daughter and my husband saw little Bella. My daughter called me and pleaded, I adamantly refused, another call, another plead, "no" again. Then she sent me a cell phone picture. OMG what a cute puff she was. But I had to play the tough Mom, I said whatever but I am not responsible for her care, like I was with Frank. Well they walked in the door with her and I fell in love. And the only things I don't do is walk her. My husband and daughter do this ( I am handicapped and have a hard time walking). And picking up her little poopy accidents when they occur (their job also). She is my baby. And I am working on saving for one more. They are definetly precious and precocious little ones.:):aimeeyork |
I first fell in love ith Yorkies when I was 6 yers old. I was on holiday with my family and I met a Yorkie girl on the beach and well, it was love at first sight for me! lol My family have always had larger breeds so I have had other big dogs in my life, but I have always loved small breeds, and in fact got my first Chihuahua just two and a half years ago after I moved out and didn't have to go by my family prefences. It was only when I was thinking about getting a second in the last few months that I started looking at other toy breeds, and suddenly all this love for the Yokshire Terrier came rushing out! I think I had quite forgotten it all, but not any more! lol I simply cannot wait to get my little Yorkie girl! Jess x |
I always like the breed but never really gave it much thought until last christmas. My mother inlaw just had lost her second husband and she was going through a really hard time so my husband and I asked her if we could get a dog for her for christmas and she said yes. However it had to be a female and small. So we were on the hunt for a little female we decided to check our local humane society. we couldn't of been luckier there she was a beautiful little female Yorkie. I fell in love with her immediately. I told my husband that I wanted her. But I ment for me he misunderstood me and as soon as we walked out he called his mom and told her we got a surprise for her. I was heart broken but I knew She would be perfect for his mom. I got to spend one night with her I gave her a bath and played with her and I felt a connection with that little dog more any dog I have ever owned I gave her up and cryed and cryed! However his mother was so happy It completely brought her out of her depression and we were so happy for that it was the best christmas ever because my husband went on a hunt for me and found me my little molly from a local breeder however molly fell in love with him. Bummer for me I cryed again. So we both went on hunt and found me my little abby and she my liittle sweety !! My mominlaw named her dog sunshine because she brought so much sunshine in her life! Sorry for such along storie |
I had always liked their look. I was always a cat person for the size, etc. Then I went to a client's house, and her Yorkie laid on my lap and fell asleep. I was sold right away. I like the fact that they don't shed and don't smell like dogs.:D I also like the terrier personality. |
I had Duster, a little 3lb. Maltese for about 10 years and when I lost her I couldn't bring myself to get another dog. 6 months after I lost Duster, we lost my mom. I was very depressed. After we lost my mom, my dad sold the house and bought a motorhome, felt like I was losing my dad too. Well, right before we lost my mom, dad was thinking of getting a dog. He finally did and he got a Yorkie. I fell in love with Jaa Arr. So after about a year I decided I was ready for a dog. So, of course I got a Yorkie. After having Pepper for just a few days, I wondered how I ever lived without him in my life. Hope my rambling makes some sense. |
When I first went on my puppy search and research it was all about the Yorkie than I start reading about the beautiful Maltese and fell in love also. So things did not work out getting the Maltese I wanted so I decided to wait. Before this I joined Yorkie talk only to learn more about Yorkies and wow I fell in love all over again. Than a YT member on here knew I was still looking for a puppy and told me about Ms.Helen of Nolen Yorkies and I saw Poppy on her puppy page and knew he was the one for me, and one thing I looked for is how the breeder communcated and Ms.Helen is excellent so that is what made me decide to get a Yorkie, it was destined to be ;) |
I always thought Yorkies were a cute breed, but I probably wouldnt have got one because of their health issues and difficulty house training them, plus I already had two dogs. Ds and his fiance bought Cinnamon from a pet store when they were at college (she was definitely a puppy mill dog)and when I first met her, I fell in love with her. Their relationship unfortunately was on and off and their housing situations changed several times so she ended up spending alot of time at my house (kind of doggy day care). For about a year and a half she kind of went between our two homes and it would kill me each time she had to go back with them. They loved her dearly but just didnt have the resources to take care of her. They finally broke up and my son couldnt keep her on his own...she is way to high maintenance and I ended up with her. Sorry, long story bu the truth |
I told my hubby I had a big hole in my heart that needed filling with a small dog. I love animals. I wanted a small one I could pick up easily cause of health issues. I researched poodles and a couple of other breeds. Then we saw a yorkie at a booth of a breeder at a flea market. My hubby told my son in law to go ask a lot of questions. LOL He kept sending him back with questions. Hubby said he liked the answers and we could get one. We did not get one out of the next litter (though dtr did and it is great). I found a breeder in the paper and got Gypsy. |
I am disabled and went through quite a bit to be approved in my housing complex to have a dog. When I was given the ok, and even before that I researched different breeds over the internet. I was looking for a small dog that would be happy in a 2 bedroom townhouse. I really like the breed Shi tz too. ANd then i came accroos the Yorkshire Terrier. I kept going back and forth. Each had certain health issues pertaining to the specific breed . I thought a Maltese was beautiful too. The yorkie puppy face looked so much like a live teddy bear to me. that I just could not ignore. I first went to a super adoption day that was far away from where I lived. By the time I got there, all the few puupies were taken. I wrote some phone numbers down and started calling about puppies. One breeder was in the other direction, and she only had one Baby girl. It was reasonable priced for a yorkie. It took me anther few hours to get there, and she was holding this Baby. It was unbelieable. She was oerfect in ever way, and looked so incrediblly cute. I never had seen a yorkie puppy in real life before. AND then, at that moment became hooked for life. :D |
Please don't tell me they don't housetrain ....!! |
