If independent means stubborn I agree with you, but if it means devotion, I think it varies greatly, among Yorkies. I'm told that in general, males tend to bond more than females, so maybe it wasn't the fact that he was a Maltese, but that he was a boy.

My baby girl has been with me 2 years this week! WOW..... she is beautiful!

the first pic is the day she came home to me..... the second is now....

I love her.....
