I don't want to discourage you but, even after Toby is neutered he will be attracted to the areas where he has peed before. Their sense of smell is so much stronger then ours and if they are still able to smell their urine they will continue to mark there. You are probably going to have to get some type of cleaner that will eliminate the smell completely.

Keeping them blocked in the kitchen while they cannot be supervised should really help and then if the boys take them out as soon as they get home they should be able to have run of the house for awhile. Keep in mind that they will also have to go to the bathroom more often in the evenings when they are most active so you might want to have the boys take them out once every hour in the evenings until you're sure the dogs get the potty outside only idea.

Have you tried using a belly band for the boy? They are great and it would keep your furniture from being peed on plus they are inexpensive.

I'm glad that you made that decision. Just the thought of not havingmine to snuggle with makes me cry.

I hope your boys step up and help out but that age is not a good age for helping. and getting the boys to let them out will not stop the peeing inside untill the dogs are completely trained. And the kids too.

May I suggest that you get an x pen or pen them in a bathroom or other hard surface area when no one is home.

also getting the carpet professionally cleaned and getting the male neutered will help.

Sounds like she may need her anal glands emptying, she may even have an infection in her glands. Your vet can sort this out.

I feel your pain...I have two pups one just turned a year the other is 16 months and they have been brutal to train. I keep them in an xpen with a washable pad, food, water and their bed. They are trained to go on the pad in their pen but if they have free run and you take your eyes of them for even a minute, one of them has gone poop in a corner. Thank God they are pretty good with the pee. We let them outside for at least an hour in the morning, after lunch, suppertime etc. But they will still do their business in the house at any given chance. They are just really difficult to train but I would say mine are at least 98% there. Hopefully in time they will get it. I would try the belly band on your male, makes a big difference. Definitely get them fixed. Do whatever you have to do to make like easier for you and the pups.

Your females glands might be full from the sounds of it. Take her to the vet or groomers and have her checked. They can express them if necessary.

I just wanted to wish you luck with your restored hope in training and keeping your babies... This is largely going to rely on your family, but the neutering will help i'm sure... Roxi is a 14 months and Rocco is 7 months.... Roxi is spayed, and I will be getting Rocco neutered asap, our Dr wants to wait till he gets a little bigger b/c he is only 2.5 lbs. I have been very lucky, as mine were both a peice of cake to train... They dont always poop right on the pads, sometimes on the kitchen floor right next to it, but they pee on the pads 99 percent of the time... But they DEF can try my patience!! But I wouldn't have it any other way, I could not imagine my life w/out them!! We are actually very blessed b/c we work a lot of hours too!

They are so adorable I could see why you changed your mind and want to give it another try. You have some excellent advice but for a huge task ahead of you. Take is one step at a time and hopefully your boys will cooperate and help out more. Teenagers are horrid, I totally feel your pain:rolleyes: ;)

Many people recommend free feeding till the age of 6 months or 4 pounds, by this time you don't usually have to worry about hypoglycemia. I feed Joey twice a day, first thing in the morning, and then again in the evening at dinnertime. He usually has a treat at bedtime. Feeding twice a day will allow the poop time to become regular, and give you more of an idea on when that time is. Many dogs will poop 5 minutes after eating so some people just take them for a walk after meals.

The diarrhea may be caused by something she's eating, and to get the best advice, I suggest you start a new thread in the diet forum. While the scooting behavior sometimes happens when anal glands are too full, it often can happen when the area has been shaved. Shaving too close can cause itching and irritation, your vet can check for this, but many people recommend clipping with a scissors instead of shaving, again you might want to look at the diet, because with the right food, you'll have no dingleberrys. The scooting may also be cause because the area is inflamed from the diarrhea. Make sure your sons aren't feeding the dogs any people food. Dogs often beg from family members who find it difficult to say no, and the food that most kids eat isn't fit for a dog, and can cause diarrhea.

I also would get some belly bands for your male dog, just place a sanitary pad inside a belly band, and take it off several times a day to allow them to pee normally outside or on a pee pad. Until the dog is fixed this might be the best option.

I did want to add that twice a week baths may be too much, many people recommend no more than once a week.

I'm so glad you're going to try and keep your babies. I can't even imagine working the hours you work and trying to housebreak yorkies. They are trying even for us who stay home with them every day. Thank you Nancy 1999. Where can I get some belly bands for Tobey? Jade's diarrhea has a touch of blood in it too. What could that be? She is playing and acting fine. Ok so we will bathe less than. Once a week? I will try the food in the am and pm. I feed them Eukanuba for Yorkshire Terriers. I love my babies and want to make this work. Everyone on this site has been so wonderful.

Don't know anything about blood or diarrhea, I have read that sometimes they get runny stools from switching to a new food too fast, if you are seeing a vet maybe you could bring in a stool sample, especially if it has blood. Ask your vet, but I think I read that the stool sample can be refrigerated until it's time to test. Like I said, it could be that your boys fed human food, getting them to admit it might be a problem. If this were the case the diarrhea would probably clear up on its own as long as no more human food was given. Belly bands can be purchased at most pets stores, they are a simple wrap that goes around the dogs middle, and usually Velcro closed. Used with a sanitary pad, they are really helpful. Many of our members make really cute ones, and there a must for unneutered dogs, but even neutered dogs can use them especially when visiting company. I know you have lots on your mind right now, but I wanted to tell you about the black light that Petsmart sells, I think you can get it with Natures Miracle the enzyme cleaner, I was telling you about earlier. Your boys might be the age where they would enjoy playing detective with the black light and finding any "evidence", using the enzyme spay, will effectively get rid of the "evidence" and the dog won't continue to return to the scene of the crime. The black light allows you to see urine stains where there doesn't seem to be any stain to the human eye. However the dog can smell these proteins and will continue to return to that spot.

I think most people here bath their dogs, once a week so that should be fine.

I'm sorry but your comment bugs me a little. The reasons she has for giving up her dogs have nothing to do with their breed, but her lifestyle. As long as this womans lifestyle remains the same, she probably doesn't need a dog period, definitely not a puppy. Too many people buy dogs without doing research and then decide it was a breed issue. Yorkies are hard to housebreak so get a Lab. The Lab was too hyper so try a Basset Hound. You get the idea. People make mistakes, but it's so important to learn from them. The OP need to change careers or get a cat.
