| First Vet Visit Suri's first vet visit went great! We got there 15minutes early to sign paper work. We signed in , and a lady came to where we were sitting and we went over the paper work, vaccinations, etc. We got called in literally 5 minutes later. They weighted Suri and she was 1 oz less then what she was (which they said was expected from the stress of a new home), and her temp was normal. The doctor came in and was super friendly and answered every question I had. She said she had great condition and a beautiful thick coat. She explained hypoglycemia and what to look for and do, (of course Suri had the Nutrical on her muzzle because I gave her some before we went to the vet) the vet was happy to see my breeder talked to me about it. She said Suri's momma,Cotton did a good job taking care of her. I told her about the hoarse barking and so she checked it out and said to keep an eye on it and what to look for, and when to bring her in. (But she said it is most likely she is barking a lot more, and sometimes it can be the new environment of dirt we get here.) She checked her knees and said they felt nice and tight, but that she is at an age where they usually don't show signs of it. As everyone knows I was eager to ask about the rabies vaccination and vaccinations in general. She was vary knowledgeable and explained the laws for rabies and when we need vaccinations next. Now the interesting part about the vaccinations. The rabies vaccination is a mandatory vaccination which must be administered UNLESS your vet finds it to be harmful to your pet! I knew I read that some where. She said that a vet can write out documentation that states this. She also said that she probably has about 5 people in their practice that have this for one reason or another. She said that reactions happen but death is extremely rare. She asked a few questions and said if it is an issue she agrees that we will wait on her rabies vaccination until she is 8 months old, even a year old. She said to watch for signs with the other vaccinations and make sure they are done one at a time 4 weeks apart. (?) But she said not to worry about bordatella (Sp?) until toward the end of the series) I asked about switching feed and what to look for, I was happy she didn't push any of the foods and just told me what to look for. I also asked about yogurt and she said either is fine and rice helps also. I told her about the food I was interested in and she said they were good but to stay away from something with an A, sorry I forgot, but she said she sees a lot of dogs get diarrhea from it. (Its an organic food) They gave me a shot record, a puppy kit a sample of food, training book, and CD, and also the number to a 24 hour vet. They are in the process of trying to be 24 hours, but they do take emergencies during hours. Overall it was a great experience, she made it fun, and joked but knew her stuff! She told me a stories one about a lab that got a corona (Sp?) shot that had an allergic reaction with in minutes. The company paid for everything, then later tried to buy the dog from the owner for 10,000! The owner called the vet and told her what she should do, and the vet said she refused to hurt the dog by giving her another shot but would help draw blood if they wanted to do testing, but that it was her dog. (Happy ending, the owner didn't sell it, but its nice to see the subject wasn't pushed and she stood her ground) Anywho, Suri was the super star of the office. She even gave the vet a kiss. And the lady that took the appointment was there. She told me about her yorkie Hunny, She didn't say anything about teacups and asked to take a picture of her for her daughter. Everyone was awesome and respectful, meaning they asked to see her and touch her. What a difference from what I have seen in the past. Oh then one of the girls told me where to go for the top food, I went and they gave me a pound of the Wellness puppy! $Free$ She asked me if I wanted a bag go carry more, Hehe… but then I got embarrassed and said this is enough. Overall, a good day. Thank you everyone for answering my questions, and Seana (nvnvgirl) for calming my nerves. I have had dogs before but yorkies are so much different! Once we got home Suri drank and went potty, and we started watching a disney movie but it turned into a nice nap for the both of us.
