I Got A Ticket!!!
 
After Jim and I walked Codie and Katie last night, we stood in front of our house and were chatting with our landlord, Ana, and a few neighbors. A cop drove by and then pulled over in front of us. He got out and asked if I had my dog's tags (the ones the indicate that they're up to date on their shots and rabies shots). I said, "Yes, I have them. They're right up there in my apartment, I'll go get them." Then he said, "Sorry, but I have to give you a ticket." :eek:

CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT!!??!!??

I was right outside my front door but he gave me a ticket anyway! I didn't know I had to carry those tags with me whenever I walk my dogs. I NEVER see anyone carring those tags with them! I told him that I am going to fight the ticket and he said I should because I will win. Then Jim asked him, "If I am going to win, why bother giving me a ticket in the first place"? The cop just shook his head and gave us the ticket!! :mad:

Sorry I meant the rabies tag. There is only a rabies tag but he also said I needed proof that my dogs are current on their shots .... I've NEVER heard of that before!! I am going to call up and find out if that's true.

The damn ticket was $155!!!

Ok now I've heard everything. They actually give tickets. I know it's the law but I didn't think they would come up to you when your little baby was on the leash. Mac never wear his tags. His harness and tags together would weigh more than him. Mellie only wears hers because if you take your eye off her for one second she likes to go visiting.

I dunno, it sounds like this cop was having a very bad day and taking it out on you and your husband. He should have given you the time to go get the tags as he requested being you were on your own property.

Id be soooooo mad and probably not have handled it as well as you did, so I surely give you credit on this one.

People on a power trip drive me insane!! :mad:

I only have the rabies tag as well....but I do have a UTD vaccination record that I keep a photocopy of....I have to register MAXIMUS WITH nyc but I was waiting till after he was neutered but now that that has happened I guess I have to send in the paperwork (those are the tags you are talking about right)?

Wow, you'd think there would be some bad guys to chase down instead of giving a lil Yorkie a ticket, I would call the News, it would make a funny story.

That is the most RIDICULOUS thing I have ever heard!!!!!!!! I can't believe you got a ticket, in your OWN YARD, for not having a rabies tag on your dog! I would have had a fit! Esme has never worn her rabies tag, actually, she rarely wears a collar, just a harness for walking. Esme is 7lbs and I can't imagine making her carry all that extra weight around her neck!

Were you on your property? If you were there is no reason you need the tags, and I'd fight it. If you were on public property that's another story. Which reminds me to register Brad since we just moved to NYC from Nassau.

I know I should! Sometimes cops take things just a bit too far. I remember last summer this was a BIG article in the Daily News (and it was on TV) about a pregnant woman who was sitting on a stoop and a cop gave her a ticket! The woman was 8 months pregnant for crying out loud and it was a VERY hot and humid day!!! She had to sit down because she was in some pain and needed to take the pressure off her back!

WHY ON EARTH DID SHE DESERVE A TICKET?? Ok, I know it's illegal to sit on stoops but c'mon, give me a break!! She was pregnant!!!

We were not in her front yard. We were standing right outside the gate, actually leaning on the gate.

I would NEVER make my dog's wear a collar of any kind. From now on I am simply going to carry their tags in my pocket when I walk them.

WTF what an a**h*le! :mad: I can't believe this cop was such a jerk. he was probly feeeling a power trip and had nothing better to do. i'm sorry you had to deal with such a jerk
