I Got A Ticket!!! After Jim and I walked Codie and Katie last night, we stood in front of our house and were chatting with our landlord, Ana, and a few neighbors. A cop drove by and then pulled over in front of us. He got out and asked if I had my dog's tags (the ones the indicate that they're up to date on their shots and rabies shots). I said, "Yes, I have them. They're right up there in my apartment, I'll go get them." Then he said, "Sorry, but I have to give you a ticket." CAN YOU BELIEVE THAT!!??!!?? I was right outside my front door but he gave me a ticket anyway! I didn't know I had to carry those tags with me whenever I walk my dogs. I NEVER see anyone carring those tags with them! I told him that I am going to fight the ticket and he said I should because I will win. Then Jim asked him, "If I am going to win, why bother giving me a ticket in the first place"? The cop just shook his head and gave us the ticket!! |
 oh my .. ok what tags .. b/c i only have the rabbies one... should i have more? or one for every vacc. he was given??? how much was the tkt for ? |
Sorry I meant the rabies tag. There is only a rabies tag but he also said I needed proof that my dogs are current on their shots .... I've NEVER heard of that before!! I am going to call up and find out if that's true. The damn ticket was $155!!! GGGGGGGGGRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!! |
Ok now I've heard everything. They actually give tickets. I know it's the law but I didn't think they would come up to you when your little baby was on the leash. Mac never wear his tags. His harness and tags together would weigh more than him. Mellie only wears hers because if you take your eye off her for one second she likes to go visiting. |
I dunno, it sounds like this cop was having a very bad day and taking it out on you and your husband. He should have given you the time to go get the tags as he requested being you were on your own property. Id be soooooo mad and probably not have handled it as well as you did, so I surely give you credit on this one. People on a power trip drive me insane!! |
I only have the rabies tag as well....but I do have a UTD vaccination record that I keep a photocopy of....I have to register MAXIMUS WITH nyc but I was waiting till after he was neutered but now that that has happened I guess I have to send in the paperwork (those are the tags you are talking about right)? |
Wow, you'd think there would be some bad guys to chase down instead of giving a lil Yorkie a ticket, I would call the News, it would make a funny story. |

Let us know how this all turns out! |
Were you on your property? If you were there is no reason you need the tags, and I'd fight it. If you were on public property that's another story. Which reminds me to register Brad since we just moved to NYC from Nassau. |

WHY ON EARTH DID SHE DESERVE A TICKET?? Ok, I know it's illegal to sit on stoops but c'mon, give me a break!! She was pregnant!!! |

I would NEVER make my dog's wear a collar of any kind. From now on I am simply going to carry their tags in my pocket when I walk them. |
OMG THAT IS CRAZY!!! Who patrols by you the 62nd precint?? or the 68?? |

My cousin is the captain there...I will have to mention this to him!! GRRRRRR!! :) Give Katie and Codie kisses from Sam and I!!! |
WTF what an a**h*le! I can't believe this cop was such a jerk. he was probly feeeling a power trip and had nothing better to do. i'm sorry you had to deal with such a jerk |

Katie and Codie send over lots of kisses for Sam!!! |
I am going to tell him just that...ESPECIALLY WHEN HE SEES A CUTE WITTLE WORKIE AND WALTESE!!!!!!!!!!! GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR!!! :) |
There are 2 tags that we need to have with us when we are out with our dogs-the one proving an UTD rabies and the other the license from the governing municipality. But a ticket for $155.00 is totall out of order. Wonder how much the ticket would have been if you actually had your baby in a basket on your bike or in a stroller. Guess there is a law saying you are committing a moving violation and the ticket would have been for maybe 500 dollars. That cop probably has a mom like us who pays more attention to her Yorkie than, in his opinion, she does to him. He is getting even with all Yorkies..LOL GO TO COURT AND FIGHT THAT TICKET!! Keep us informed and GOOD LUCK! |

YIKES!!!!!!!!!! I NEVER put mine on Tiah!!!!!! EVER!!!!!!!! She doesn't wear a collar. I'll be putting it on her harness from now on. That is TOTALLY crazy!!!!!! Don't let it go too long before your urge to fight it lessens any....do it this week. Again, YIKES  ! |
Sounds like someone was a little bored on their shift.... |
What a jerk!!! I HATE POLICE OFFICERS AND I WILL TRAIN MY KUJO COCO TO BITE THEM  |

This seems totally absurd to me!!! I understand wanting to make sure that your dog is not potentially infected with a disease, but my god let you walk into the house! This is good for me to know though. I guess I will have to slip Bruce's tags into my purse, because the tags are simply too big and ugly for him to wear on his collar with his ID and micorchip tag. I am sorry this happened, but I bet it is sort of like getting a ticket for driving without proof of insurance if you have insurance. Just go to court with proof of the shots and they will drop it. Sad thing is you have to take your time to do that! I hate when cops get on power trips! |
What a loser! Big cop pickin' on a little Yorkie! What a tough guy! I have never heard of such a thing - he must have been bored and need to make his quota. Loser cop! |
I guess looking for real criminals was just to much for him, all he could handle was a little dog. |
I too am surprised. Is it a "fix it" type ticket that you can show a cop the tags and they will sign it off and you mail it in without paying the fine? I always carry my little dog's tags in my purse with their service dog ID becasue the tags are too big for a 3 lb yorkie. |
That is amazing to me. Also, you can't sit on a stoop in New York? What is the U.S. coming to? This is totally unreal to me. Giving a ticket to a little dog like that on a leash on top of it. Unreal! Pat |
I am sorry this happened to you. I was unaware that you need to carry the tags with you when you have them out. I never do it. |

I know in our state you are supposed to have them on the dog at all times when you are not on your property. Fight the ticket considering you were home pretty much. Also when you go to fight it take some info with you about why yorkies cant wear collars. I carry Memphis' tags on the leash itself. |
