I use a key ring and have the tags on the square part of the leash where the hooky thingy is. That way I always have them with me. In our town we can get ticketed if the tag isn't in plain site. We have ceratin color rabies tags for whatever year. Like last year was blue and this year is red. That way a cop can see the tag color and know the dog is up to date without having to hassle you. The main reason that they do this is because if you dog bites, and all breeds and sizes do occasionally bite, and you are not home, there is proof right away that the dog is current on rabies. That is the tag that they worry about because it is transmitable to humans. |

I don't live in NY and I never put any tags on my dogs. I might have to contact the local newspaper and ask if they are interested in a human interest story about a picked on pet. I do see the need and will start carrying my tags with me but like others, my two would be weighed down. |
We have to have rabies and city taxes tags here for our dogs. I can't believe that cop told you you would win in court. Why diod he go to all the trouble writing it if you was going to win. Grrrrrr... |
I never even thought about having my dogs' tags on them. Piper's rabies tag is almost as big as he is. Thanks for the idea of putting it on the leash, I'll have to make sure to do it that way because there is no way I'll make my little baby lug that big tag around, hanging from his neck. What a butthead cop!! :thumbdown Definitely go fight his butt in court. $155 is ridiculous!!! |
How absolutely idiotic! Sounds to me that he was mad at the world and took it out on you! Ridiculous!!! Good luck with this issue!!! |
I'd suggest going to the courtdate. Be polite and respectful, and most likely the judge will at least knock down the citation amount. They do it for other things all the time--this shouldn't be any different. I also thing there may be a good chance that the judge may just get rid of the citation altogether once you explain the circumstances. Did the officer seem smug to you? He could have a few issues: maybe he's new and overly gung-ho, he might have been having a bad day, or he may just be a jerk. None of these are good excuses and he definitely took a cheap shot. Hope you win this one!! :) |
You got a ticket?!?!? :eyetearss It sure is nice to know that the crime rate in your area is sooo low that the cops have nothing better to do than go around giving Yorkies tickets for not wearing their licenses!! NYPD Blue might have to be brought back!! I can just see Andy Sip-o-witz (sp) giving a Yorkie a ticket for an impropper dress code! Thank goodness your little guy didn't hike his leg on the cops tire!! I'd fight it tooth and nail!! Sick-em'!!! Suz  |
