| Can anyone recommend any good grooming products?? I am looking for a good shampoo, conditioner, or maybe even a detangler (if they even make puppy detangler) that I can buy in a store to help manage her coat. My 12 week old pups fur tangles really bad at the roots where the color is starting to change. I bathe her weekly and brush her daily. |

I ♥ Joey & Ralphie! Donating Member | I don't know if you've seen the grooming section, but there's lots of good advise on that. Don't know if you puppy will have a silky or cotton coat, but most puppy's have some matting. Joey got a sticker in his hair once, and I had read about Cowboy Magic detangler and was glad to have some on hand. He really hasn't needed it much since then, but for those puppies with a cotton coat it's a godsend. You use it before bathing and get out any mats before you get the hair wet, because once it's wet the mats are even more difficult to remove. You always follow brushing with a comb next to the skin to ensure all tangles are out, as these will turn into mats. Joey's breeder recommend Biogroom Products, and I used to have to buy the online, but our local Pet Smart started selling it, They are very concentrated and she recommended watering both shampoos and conditions down to about 1-4 with water. I have tried many other shampoos and conditioners as I am a real sucker in this area, but this is still one of my favorites. Make sure you get a baby tooth brush and get him use to having his teeth brushed with a suitable dog toothpaste, even though they will lose these teeth, it's important to get him use to the brushing action. He'll bite at the toothbrush a lot, and ruin it pretty quickly, so I would get baby toothbrushes at the dollar store, but eventually they learn not to bite it. Don't use human toothpaste because it has artificial sweeteners in it that could harm your dog. Yorkies have problems with their teeth and brushing their teeth 2-3 times a week is important. As he get older, and gets his permanent teeth, many people have recommended Petzlife spray or gel, to prevent tartar build-up, a huge problem with Yorkies.
