| Tink and I are going on a trip to Texas! I'm going to Austin over Labor Day week to visit my daughter and her husband in their brand new first home. They closed on it two weeks ago so it still smells like paint. They love me so much they built a bedroom for me on the first floor cause stairs are difficult for me. Aren't they sweet?! So, Tinkerbrat is coming home Wednesday and I don't want to give her up for anything right now, so she's going with me. Her vet said it would be OK, so I booked our flight just a few minutes ago and made her special little reservation - she has her own little number! This will be her first time flying so I hope it goes well and she doesn't try to eat the carrier!!! I'll have to get a wheeled one because I can't carry her since she's a mini-tank at 11 lbs. They just fed her too much at the hospital! It says on the airline info not to sedate them, but isnt there a natural product out there that you can give them to calm them down? I know I've seen something about it on YT but I can't remember what it's called. Anyone know? We're gonna have some fun and get into trouble and get yelled at and we don't care cause Tink and I are going on a trip - just cause we can. JK - we'll be good. |

Yorkie Kisses are the Best! Donating Member | I wish SO Much we could get together ! That's SO cool they did that for you - you ARE loved aren't you ?? You have a wonderful time and please - do NOT OVER DO it ok ? Let me re-word it - take the city by storm but remember you are NOT superwoman lol - and if the paint is still strong - make sure there's ventalation - as far as Tink - I heard Rescue Remedy works but I can't say that from experience. You may want to read up about it ...that could be just what you need. What a big trip for you - you both really ARE better - I'm so happy for you ! Hugs and Safe Flying !! ps - Austin is GORGEOUS !! You'll love it there. Hot - but a very pretty city |

Banning Thread Dictator Donating Member | Hurray, welcome home Tink! I believe the no-sedative rule is just for dogs that you crate and ship cargo. They don't want them sliding around on a bumpy flight or when moved. My vet prescribed a mild sedative for traveling, and I tried it a couple times with Eddie. I decided it made him look too sad, so I went without it. He did fine. Jack, on the other hand, doesn't fly well. He almost seemed like he was having a seizure. I didn't sedate him but am considering something called Rescue Remedy for our next flight. It's supposedly a natural stress relief and comes in drops. I've heard good things about it on another forum, but can't recall it being discussed here. (Edit: I take that back after reading V's post above!) You might want to pack some Nutrical, though, in case Tink has a reaction similar to Jack's.

| Congratulation to you and on the close of the home! I couldnt leave my baby girl either - thus putting her on a plane will come up soon. We travel a lot. I will be watching this thread like a hawk! Do they really have to go into the cargo section? That freaks me out - if its true... I dont know. I think if true - personally - I would speak to my Vet about how s/he feels about very mild sedation. I have heard horror stories so Im interested in seeing how this really works - and works out. One story was about a pups crate getting crushed. So scary! Good luck! Your thread is full of excited happiness! ~ Sky |

| Oh Susie! I"m so happy you get to have a much needed vacation!! How long do you get to stay? I have heard Rescue Remedy works, too. I have some on hand. There seems to be a lot of holistic remedies but I don't know about many of them. I would definitely go with one that has been recommended by someone who has used it. With Tink, cause of all the problems she has had, maybe asking the vet would be the best way to go for her? That is so sweet that that they built a room for you where it would be easy. Bless their hearts. |

| Definitely look into rescue remedy. It is a natural herb & essential oil blend made by Bach's. It should do the trick nicely for you without overly sedating Tink. I would take Mike's suggestion of bringing Nutrical along as well. But since you can't carry anything on board over 3 oz in size, you'll have to get a mini tupperware-like container to put some in and then it will need to go in a quart-size ziplock baggie along with any other liquid toiletries you may be carrying on!!!!! I hope both you and Tink do great and enjoy your vacation in your daughter's new home!!!!!! I'm so glad Tink will be with you again!!!!!!! P.S. Dress her cute and put a bow in her hair - people will go crazy over her and you might just get to take her out of the carrier.....

Banning Thread Dictator Donating Member | No, no, no. Little dogs can fly in the cabin in a carrier that can fit under the seat. I was just saying the "rule" against sedatives applies to big dogs who fly in cargo. I think.

But that made me feel good. I'm glad I don't sound like an over-the-hill old woman. Tink on the other hand has grown up alot over the last few months. She's still crazy as ever but a little more tempered. | |
