| Our 12 week old puppy, Trudy, has been doing fine sleeping in her crate. We have found that the trick for her is making sure she is tired out when we put her down for the night. Usually about 20 minutes of intense rope-bone play or a supervised play session with her cousin Ruger (a male Silky Terrier belonging to my daughter who is staying with us temporarily) does the trick. She has a favorite spot in a blanket in my lap. After her play session, she gets in her spot and it is usually less than 10 minutes before she is out for the count. She opens her eyes when I pick her up, walks into her crate and doesn't make a peep until the next morning. We trained her predecessor Tasha a little differently. She was given a treat every night after being let out to use the bathroom. We never had a problem with her getting in the crate but she would go to bed at the same time my wife did and wake up earlier. Since I am the night owl in the family, we hope that Trudy's schedule will allow my wife a bit more sleep in the morning than Tasha's did. So far it is working fine. |
