Tragic Mistake I had to share our horrible story so that hopefully it might prevent this from happening to another family. Thursday night my family was eating supper. We had grilled pork chops. My daughter got up from her seat at our table and forgot to push up her chair. Our 10 month old yorkie jumped up on the table and grabbed one of the pork chop bones and started to choke. I immediately called our vet, and he said that she would probably be fine...it might take some time to pass through her stomach and on out. Anyway, we monitored her all night long and she just didn't act right...she was whining and basically never moved all night. We took her to the vet the next morning. They took x-rays discovered that the bone had lodged in her esophagus. We had to immediately leave and drive 2 1/2 hours to the nearest surgery center. The surgeon painted a pretty horrible picture for her (I guess he had to prepare us for the worst) but to our relief, he was able to get it out with a scope instead of having to cut her open. The size of the bone was about the size of a quarter. He said that there was no damage to her esophagus which we are so thankful for. She stayed overnight, and we brought her home this morning. She is truly back to her normal, hyper self! :) I know for our busy family, it is so hard to think about the small things we must do to keep Boo safe, but I know we will try to be even more aware now. The thought of being without her is unimaginable! |
What a scare  Glad she's ok  |
So glad that your vet managed to get it out. These things can happen in a heart beat!!! |
Thank goodness Boo is fine. That scared me to death when I started reading. I'm glad all is back to normal. I know what you mean when you say you can't imagine life without her. She's so cute.:) |

I'm so thankful there is a happy ending to your story - it could have been so tragic. And thank you for reminding us how something so simple as getting up from the table could end in a horrible tragedy. We tend to take things for granted - like remembering that it's up to us to be one step ahead of any mischief our little ones could get into. |
WOW..how scary. They can sure get into things so quick. Very glad to hear all turn out well and she is back to being her old self. Thanks for sharing. |
WOW! I am glad she is okay! |
Omg! Sorry you had to go through that but am relieved everything will be okay. Thank you for sharing! I always mentally note posts like this and it will help me be extra cautious! |
I am so glad everything is OK. Thank you for sharing your story we all need to be reminded of the dangers of bones. I had a friend in high school that his dog died from a pork chop bone....it was horrible!!! As much as my DH loves our Buddy he is always asking if Buddy can have a bone to chew on....I am like NOOOOO!!! I keep telling him how dangerous bones are!!!! Again, glad you shared your scary story!!! |
I am so glad to know that she is OK! That is a tragic story with a happy ending. Those little pups are fast, I know that. I dropped a huge piece of pork on the floor (thank the Lord there wasnt a bone in it) and John Wayne gulped it down in one fast swoop. I was so nervous he would choke. But I am glad to know that all is well with your little girl. What a heart warming ending. |
